Taxi from Huanglong to Jiuzhaigou

Hi, my husband and I are planning on visiting Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong in March next year. We’ll catch a train to Huanglongjiuzhai in the morning then take a taxi to Huanglong.

My question is how do we get to Jiuzhaigou NP area (where we’ll stay for 2 nights) from Huanglong please? Would taxi or bus be available?

Or can we ask the taxi driver to wait for us at Huanglong to eventually take us to Jiuzhaigou? If this can be done, we prefer it this way and what’s the ball park cost for this usually (we’re not sure how long we’ll be at Huanglong)?

Been searching for this topic but no luck so far.

Thank you

Traveling from Huanglong to Jiuzhaigou National Park is relatively straightforward, though options are somewhat limited due to the remote mountainous area. Here’s a detailed overview of your choices:

The distance from Huanglong Scenic Area to Jiuzhaigou National Park entrance is roughly 80–90 km, and the road is winding in mountainous terrain, so travel time is about 2–3 hours by car.

  • Private taxi or car hire: This is the most convenient and flexible option. You can hire a taxi in advance from Huanglongjiuzhai train station to take you first to Huanglong and then onward to Jiuzhaigou. If you ask the driver to wait at Huanglong while you explore the scenic area, it is generally possible, especially if arranged ahead of time. Expect to pay around 600–900 CNY for the full transfer from Huanglongjiuzhai station to Jiuzhaigou via Huanglong (driver waiting time included), depending on negotiation, season, and vehicle type.
  • Bus / shuttle: There are public buses and tourist shuttles between Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, but they are limited and may not run frequently in March, which is off-peak season. These buses usually leave early in the morning, require prior confirmation, and you might have to adjust your timing to match their schedule. This option is cheaper (roughly 50–100 CNY per person), but less flexible, especially if you want to stay at Huanglong for a few hours.

Additional tips:

  • Arrange your taxi in advance through your hotel, a local travel agency, or at the train station taxi desk to ensure availability and agree on the price beforehand.
  • Confirm with the driver whether the fare includes waiting time at Huanglong; some drivers charge extra per hour.
  • Check weather conditions in March, as roads can be slippery due to snow or ice, which may slightly extend travel time.

In summary, for comfort and convenience, especially with luggage and flexibility, hiring a private taxi that waits at Huanglong is the recommended option. It allows you to enjoy Huanglong at your own pace before heading to Jiuzhaigou, while bus options are more budget-friendly but less flexible.
