Anchorage hotel in May
Hi does anyone have any advice on booking a decent hotel near the airport or with a reliable airport transfer on a Saturday night in mid-May please? Reviews are worrying and prices seem ridiculously high. Currently have the Courtyard Marriott reserved but given the reviews and the fact we will only be in it for less than 10 hours, not sure I can justify over $500 for the night. Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.
For a short overnight stay in Anchorage near the airport, especially on a Saturday in mid-May, it’s understandable that prices can feel high due to limited inventory and seasonal demand. Since you’re only staying for under 10 hours, comfort, convenience, and a reliable airport shuttle may matter more than luxury amenities.
Here are some practical options and tips:
- Consider airport-adjacent hotels with shuttles: Many mid-range hotels near Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport offer free shuttles, making a short stay hassle-free. Examples include:
- Home2 Suites by Hilton Anchorage
- Hilton Garden Inn Anchorage
- Best Western Plus Airport Inn & Suites
- Check smaller boutique or local inns: Some have good shuttle arrangements and lower rates than major chains. While they may not have all amenities, they’re sufficient for a quick overnight.
- Use booking apps for last-minute deals: Sometimes apps like Hotels.com or Expedia offer “pay at hotel” or last-minute discounts that can be significantly cheaper than pre-booking months in advance.
- Airport parking alternatives: If your concern is convenience, some airport parking facilities offer day-use rooms or lounges nearby—though these are limited and need to be checked in advance.
Additional considerations:
- Call the hotel directly to confirm shuttle schedules; some operate only during limited hours on weekends.
- Consider staying slightly further from the airport (10–15 minutes) if shuttle service is reliable—this can save money while still keeping you close.
- Book as early as possible for mid-May, as prices rise quickly with approaching summer season in Alaska.
Overall, for a short overnight with minimal hassle, a mid-range airport hotel with a verified shuttle is the most practical choice, rather than paying premium rates for luxury accommodations.
