taxi - Dengfeng to Kaifeng?

Hi,

Is it easy / fast to get a taxi, DiDi, from Dengfeng to Kaifeng on a Sunday morning? Cost?

I know you can bus to Zhengzhou then catch a 20min train to Kaifeng.

I know I can hire a private car transfer too.

I'd like to consider all options, mainly for convenience and flexibility - go when I want to go, no need for a strict schedule or to pre-book.

I'm travelling with a backpack and large 28" / 160cm suitcase.

Thanks

Traveling from Dengfeng to Kaifeng on a Sunday morning can be approached in a few different ways depending on your priorities: convenience, flexibility, and cost. Here’s a detailed overview of your options:

1. Taxi or Didi:

  • Getting a local taxi or using Didi (China’s equivalent of Uber) for a direct trip from Dengfeng to Kaifeng is technically possible, but not very common because it’s a long-distance journey (approx. 300 km, 4–5 hours driving).
  • Availability of a driver on a Sunday morning may be limited. You might need to pre-book a Didi or request a long-distance ride through the app. Not all Didi drivers accept long-distance trips, especially outside urban areas.
  • Cost: Expect around 800–1,200 CNY for a private Didi or taxi. This can vary based on availability, surge pricing, and vehicle size, especially since you have a large suitcase.
  • Pros: Maximum flexibility, leave whenever you want, door-to-door service.
  • Cons: Expensive and might require some coordination to find a driver willing to take a long trip.

2. Bus + Train Option:

  • Take a local bus or taxi from Dengfeng to Zhengzhou (approx. 2–2.5 hours), then catch a high-speed train from Zhengzhou East or Zhengzhou Station to Kaifeng (approx. 20–30 minutes).
  • Cost: Bus to Zhengzhou ~50–70 CNY per person; train to Kaifeng ~15–30 CNY depending on seat class.
  • Pros: Significantly cheaper than a taxi or Didi. Reliable schedules, high-speed train makes the last leg quick.
  • Cons: Less flexibility; you’ll have to handle luggage transfers and wait for scheduled bus/train times.

3. Private Car Transfer:

  • You can hire a private driver or car service for the full Dengfeng-Kaifeng trip. Many travel agencies in Zhengzhou or Dengfeng offer this service.
  • Cost: Around 1,000–1,500 CNY depending on vehicle size and service level.
  • Pros: Comfortable, flexible, can accommodate large luggage, and direct door-to-door service.
  • Cons: More expensive than public transport and must be booked in advance.

Recommendation:

If convenience and flexibility are your top priorities and cost is not a major concern, a private car or long-distance Didi is the easiest way. If you want to save money and don’t mind following a schedule, the bus + train option is efficient and widely used by travelers.
