Hi Guys.
We are staying as a family of 5 at the royal Hawaiian in a couple of weeks.
I saw the beach chairs and Umbrellas are $100 a day for 2 chairs.
Are there any rules about bringing our own Beach blanket and Umbrella?
Does the property own a portion of the beach and if so, is it just a case of walking 100 feet down the beach to setup our own umbrella?
Thanks
Hi there,
Staying at the Royal Hawaiian is a great choice! Here’s a detailed explanation about beach access, chairs, and umbrellas in Waikiki.
Public Beach Access:
In Hawaii, all beaches are public up to the high tide line. No hotel or private property can legally claim exclusive ownership of the sand. This means you can walk along the beach and set up your own blanket or umbrella anywhere beyond the area directly managed by a resort.
Royal Hawaiian Beach Area:
The resort does manage a section of the beach immediately in front of its property. In this area, they offer beach chairs and umbrellas for rent (currently about $100 per day for two chairs with an umbrella). This is mainly for guest convenience, service, and staff support to maintain those setups.
Bringing Your Own Equipment:
Tips:
In summary, while the Royal Hawaiian provides chairs and umbrellas for convenience, you can absolutely enjoy the beach with your own blanket and umbrella by setting up a short walk down the sand beyond the resort-managed area. This is a common approach for families who prefer more flexibility and want to avoid rental fees.
Enjoy your family trip and the beautiful Waikiki beach!
