We’re taking a few days away when visiting family in LA in April/May. We think we’d like to fly to Denver, stay a night or two, then take the California Zephyr to Glenwood Springs and stay there two nights before returning to Denver. Am I right in thinking this portion of the train trip is very scenic? Beautiful scenery is what we are looking for. Has anyone any suggestions for accommodation and activities in Glenwood Springs for us? Is two nights sufficient? We’re in our late sixties and while reasonably fit, we are not up for adventure activities. The hot springs appeal to us.
The portion of the California Zephyr from Denver to Glenwood Springs is widely considered one of the most scenic train rides in the United States. You will travel through the high plains, the Rocky Mountains, and alongside the Colorado River, with views of rugged cliffs, rolling valleys, and snow-capped peaks in April/May. The train offers panoramic windows which make it easy to enjoy the scenery without any physical exertion, which is perfect for a relaxed, scenic experience.
Two nights in Glenwood Springs is generally sufficient for a leisurely visit, especially if your main focus is soaking in the hot springs and enjoying light sightseeing. This timeframe allows for a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
