FLL airport

I have a flight arriving at FLL airport at 1am and a connecting flight at 7:30am. Can I stay in the airport? I did read somewhere that you have to leave the gate area and go to pre security. Is that correct?

If you have a layover at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) between your connecting flights, there are some important things to consider regarding staying at the airport overnight:

  • Staying in the Airport - Yes, you can stay inside the airport, but your options depend on your location and the availability of seating. Many passengers choose to wait in the terminal until their next flight, especially during late-night or early-morning layovers. However, it's important to know that not all parts of the airport are open 24/7, and services may be limited.
  • Security Checkpoints - If your connecting flight is from a different terminal or gate area, you'll likely need to leave the secure area and go through the security checkpoint again. While it's true that you may have to go through security again, you should be able to stay in the general airport area (outside the secured gates) until the time for your next flight. FLL airport does not have specific "overnight areas" after security, so you may need to wait in the public, pre-security part of the airport.
  • Available Amenities - While you can stay in the airport, you may not find many amenities open, especially in the late hours. Some restaurants, shops, and lounges may close after a certain time, and there may be limited seating options. The terminals themselves are generally quieter, so you may be able to find a spot to sit and relax, but it’s not the most comfortable option for a long overnight stay.
  • Airport Lounges - If you have access to an airport lounge (either through your airline or a membership like Priority Pass), you might be able to relax in a more comfortable space with better seating, food, and possibly shower facilities. Lounges at FLL are typically open until the last flight of the night and may be a good option if you're looking for a place to rest. Keep in mind, lounges may close during the night and reopen closer to the first morning flights.

In summary, you can stay at FLL airport overnight, but you may need to leave the secure area, especially if your connecting flight departs from a different gate or terminal. Be prepared for limited amenities and fewer seating options, but there are some comfortable spaces available if you look around. If you prefer a more restful experience, consider accessing a lounge (if you have access) or exploring options to rent a room nearby to make the wait more comfortable.
