Gator airboat ride and show. Gator Park vs Everglades

Wanting to stop for a gator airboat ride and show on way down to keys (traveling from Tampa). Which is a better experience? Gator park or Alligator Farm. I realize they both arent in homestead but they arent far from our first stop in Key Largo. Not interested in Shark valley I know my kids will get bored. We will be arriving early about 10am.

If you’re looking for a gator airboat ride and show in the Homestead/Key Largo area, both Gator Park and the Everglades Alligator Farm have their merits, but your choice may depend on what kind of experience you want and the age/interest of your kids.

Gator Park

  • Located in Homestead, Gator Park is right near the entrance to the Everglades and is convenient if you are heading toward the Keys from Tampa.
  • Offers airboat rides that are shorter (about 30-40 minutes) and very family-friendly, giving you a chance to see gators, birds, and other wildlife in the Everglades ecosystem.
  • Has interactive gator shows where you can see gators being handled safely by the staff, and kids can even have a chance to touch a smaller gator under supervision.
  • Less crowded than some of the larger attractions, which may make it easier to manage with kids and have a more personal experience.

Everglades Alligator Farm

  • Also near Homestead, it’s a slightly larger attraction and has been operating for many years.
  • Airboat rides are a bit longer and sometimes faster, which can be more exciting for older kids and teens but may be less suitable for younger children if they are nervous or sensitive to speed.
  • Gator shows tend to be more structured and staged, offering some hands-on opportunities but with larger audiences.
  • They also have other small wildlife exhibits, like snakes and exotic birds, which can add to the experience but might stretch the attention span of younger children.

Considerations for Your Trip

  • Arriving around 10am is great, as both locations are less crowded early in the day and airboat tours often leave on the hour.
  • If your priority is a kid-friendly, interactive experience with a chance to touch gators and have a slower, scenic ride, Gator Park is likely the better choice.
  • If your kids are older and enjoy a faster, more thrilling ride with the option to see additional wildlife exhibits, Everglades Alligator Farm could be fun.
  • Both locations are a short drive from Key Largo, so either will fit easily into your route down to the Keys.

Overall, for families with young children who want a hands-on, interactive experience without feeling rushed, Gator Park tends to be recommended by visitors. The Everglades Alligator Farm may appeal more to thrill-seekers or those who want a slightly bigger attraction with more exhibits.
