Have you ever been to china what will be the answer?

I am filling China visa form and there are 2 questions which are confusing me, What i will answer in response of question that have you ever been to china if i already went to hong-kong last year.I am confused because in another question where it is asking me that where have you been in last one year then from drop down menu Hong kong is not listed as a country so what should answer? I have visited china or not?

When filling out a China visa form, the distinction between mainland China and its Special Administrative Regions (SARs) such as Hong Kong and Macau is important. Hong Kong is a SAR and is treated separately from mainland China for visa purposes. Therefore, your answers should reflect this distinction.

Specifically for your situation:

  • Question: "Have you ever been to China?" – Since you have only visited Hong Kong and not mainland China, the correct answer is No. Visiting Hong Kong does not count as visiting mainland China for visa purposes.
  • Question about "where have you been in the last one year?" – In this drop-down menu, Hong Kong may not appear as a country because it is a SAR. You should select the country corresponding to your visit origin (for example, if your visit was from the UK to Hong Kong, you could list Hong Kong as a region under the appropriate section if allowed, or simply indicate “Other: Hong Kong”). The key point is that this question is about your travel history, not visa eligibility.

Additional tips:

  • Do not confuse Hong Kong or Macau visits with mainland China visits; visa authorities treat them separately.
  • For clarity, if the form allows a comment or explanation box, you can briefly note that you have visited Hong Kong (SAR) but not mainland China.
  • Ensure consistency: answering “No” for having been to China and separately listing Hong Kong in your travel history is correct.

In summary, visiting Hong Kong does not count as visiting China for visa questions, so your answer to "Have you ever been to China?" should be “No,” and you can indicate Hong Kong in the travel history section if relevant.
