Drop Box and cloud storage
Hi,
Is Drop Box accessible in China please? If not can anyone recommend Cloud Storage, which is please?
Dropbox, along with several other foreign cloud storage services like Google Drive and OneDrive, is generally not accessible in China without using a VPN. This is due to the country's internet restrictions, commonly known as the Great Firewall.
If you need reliable cloud storage while in China, it’s best to use services that operate locally or have servers in China, as they are accessible without a VPN and usually provide better speed and reliability.
- Baidu Cloud (Baidu Wangpan) – Very popular in China with large free storage options; supports Chinese interface and mobile apps.
- Tencent Cloud (Weiyun) – Another widely used service with good integration with WeChat and QQ; suitable for file sharing and storage.
- Aliyun Drive (Alibaba Cloud Drive) – Offers both free and paid options, with apps for desktop and mobile; good for larger file uploads.
- Huawei Cloud Drive – Offers cloud storage for Huawei devices and others, with good access speeds in China.
Tips:
- Use a service that has a Chinese interface if you’re comfortable with limited English support, as many international cloud services are blocked.
- Check storage limits and free vs. paid tiers, as some local services may restrict large file sharing without a premium plan.
- If you must use Dropbox or other foreign services, a VPN is required, but reliability can vary and may violate local regulations.
In summary, for hassle-free access and speed, local services like Baidu Cloud, Tencent Weiyun, and Aliyun Drive are the best options while in China.
