Hotel recs
My husband and I will be driving to San Diego for Easter weekend(mid April). We will have our 8 month old with us. We will arrive Friday and then leave Monday.
I'm looking at some hotels that I can book with my credit card points:
Pendry
Auberge
Mission Bay resort
For a short Easter weekend trip to San Diego with an 8-month-old, your choice of hotel will likely revolve around comfort, convenience, and family-friendly amenities. All three properties you mentioned—Pendry, Auberge, and Mission Bay Resort—are high-end, but they each offer slightly different experiences.
Pendry San Diego:
- Located in the lively Gaslamp Quarter, so great if you enjoy being in the heart of the city with restaurants, shops, and nightlife within walking distance.
- Upscale boutique hotel with modern rooms and amenities, including a rooftop pool and spa.
- Less geared toward young children; you may need to bring your own baby essentials, and the central location might be busy and noisy for an infant.
Auberge Resort in Del Mar:
- Located north of downtown San Diego, closer to the coast and beaches.
- Luxury resort with spacious rooms, excellent service, and a peaceful, scenic environment.
- More family-friendly than Pendry; some villas or suites offer kitchenettes and extra space for a baby.
- Drive required to reach main attractions like Balboa Park, USS Midway, and Gaslamp Quarter (20–30 min depending on traffic).
Mission Bay Resort:
- Great for families with young children, especially if you want a relaxed, beachfront vibe.
- Access to calm bay waters, walking paths, and pools suitable for kids.
- Rooms may be slightly less luxurious than Pendry or Auberge but provide more practical space for a baby and gear.
- Close to SeaWorld and downtown (15–20 min drive), making it convenient for sightseeing while staying in a quieter area.
Other considerations:
- Check if the hotels provide cribs, high chairs, and baby-sitting services if needed.
- Parking may be limited in downtown areas (Pendry), whereas resort-style hotels often include parking.
- For a short trip with an infant, Mission Bay Resort or Auberge may offer more comfortable, low-stress accommodations than Pendry.
In summary, if you want to be in the city and enjoy a vibrant downtown experience, Pendry is excellent. If you prefer a scenic, more relaxed resort stay with baby-friendly amenities, Mission Bay Resort is ideal. Auberge offers luxury and tranquility but requires some driving for city attractions.
