International to Domestic transfer time

I am arriving on a Turkish Airlines fright from IST at 6:05 PM and transferring to a domestic Delta flight due to depart for JAX at 7:55PM.

I have global entry and will only have one carry on bag and am wondering if this seems like a reasonable connection time?

Your connection time of 1 hour and 50 minutes between your international Turkish Airlines flight and your domestic Delta flight at Boston Logan Airport (BOS) seems doable, but it will depend on a few factors. Given that you have Global Entry, this will definitely help speed up the customs process, but there are still several steps to consider:

  • Arrival and Customs: Upon arriving on your Turkish Airlines flight, you’ll first need to clear U.S. Customs and Immigration. Since you have Global Entry, this should be faster, but it’s still important to keep in mind that waiting in line can take time, especially during busy hours.
  • Security Check: After clearing customs, you will need to go through TSA security again for your domestic Delta flight. While Global Entry provides expedited access, it can still take some time during peak travel hours.
  • Terminal Transfer: Turkish Airlines flights generally arrive at Terminal E at BOS, and Delta typically departs from Terminal A. While these terminals are connected, you’ll need to allow time to walk to the next gate. If your domestic flight is departing from a gate that’s farther away, this could take extra time.
  • Carry-on Only: Having just a carry-on bag is definitely beneficial, as you won’t need to wait for checked luggage. However, you’ll still need to factor in the time it takes to get to your departure gate after clearing customs and security.

Given all of this, 1 hour and 50 minutes can be tight, but it’s possible if everything goes smoothly. Here are some additional tips:

  • Keep an eye on your flight’s arrival time: If your Turkish Airlines flight is on time, you’ll have a better chance of making the connection. Delays, especially at busy international arrival times, could put extra pressure on the connection.
  • Plan your route from Terminal E to Terminal A: Knowing the layout of BOS beforehand will help you get to your next gate more efficiently. The terminals are connected airside, but the walk can take about 10-15 minutes, depending on your gate locations.
  • Let the flight crew know: If you're concerned about timing, mention your tight connection to the flight attendants on your international flight. They may be able to help expedite your disembarkation or offer advice.

If you miss your flight, Delta should be able to rebook you on a later one, but given your short time, this is best avoided if possible. You might want to look into travel insurance that covers tight connections just in case.

Overall, while it is a relatively short connection time, it’s not impossible. Just be prepared to move quickly through customs and security to give yourself the best chance of making it to your Delta flight on time.
