Travel from Long Beach to LAX

My husband and I are renting a home in Long Beach from 3/27 to 4/14/25. While we are there our daughter will be flying into LAX to visit us.

Wondering approximately how long the drive would be to pick her up on Friday 4/4 at 7:50 pm and then to drop her off on Monday 4/7 for an 8 am flight?

Or would an Uber be better and if so any idea of the price?

Thank you!

The drive from Long Beach to LAX can vary significantly depending on the time of day and traffic. For your specified times:

  • Friday, April 4, at 7:50 pm pickup: Traffic is usually lighter than rush hour, but there may still be some congestion on I-405 or surface streets. Expect the drive to take approximately 45–60 minutes under normal conditions. Allow extra time for finding parking or navigating airport traffic.
  • Monday, April 7, for an 8:00 am flight drop-off: Morning traffic heading toward LAX can be heavy, especially between 6:00–8:00 am. The drive could take 60–90 minutes depending on conditions. Leaving around 6:15–6:30 am would give you a comfortable buffer for security and potential delays.

Regarding using Uber or rideshare services:

  • An Uber or Lyft from Long Beach to LAX typically takes similar time as driving yourself, about 45–60 minutes in the evening and 60–90 minutes in the morning.
  • Estimated fares (as of 2025) for a standard UberX are around $50–$70, while an UberXL (if you have more luggage or prefer extra space) may be $70–$100. Prices can surge depending on demand, particularly during morning drop-offs or late evening arrivals.
  • Benefits of Uber include avoiding parking and airport navigation stress, especially in LAX’s busy terminals. You also won’t have to worry about finding parking or waiting in long shuttle lines.

Tips:

  • Check live traffic before leaving; apps like Google Maps or Waze are reliable for estimating drive times to LAX.
  • Consider ride-sharing for the morning drop-off, as it saves the stress of early morning traffic and parking at LAX.
  • If you drive yourself, familiarize yourself with the terminal for your daughter’s airline to ensure smooth pick-up and drop-off.

Overall, both driving and Uber are feasible. Evening pickup is easier in terms of traffic, while morning drop-off might be less stressful with a rideshare service.
