Visit Longji rice terraces on a group tour
Hello,
I am going on a solo trip in China and I will be in Guilin last week of october and I would like to spend a day to the Longji rice Terraces.
Main goal is to take some pictures, even if it seems that it's not the greatest time of month to do this. I don't mind if it involves a lot of walking.
So I'm looking for a group tour, mainly because I'm on a budget and private tours are expensive.
The tour must starts and ends at Guilin.
And ideally, I also need a guide that speaks some english, since I don't speak the local language.
The problem is that it's hard to find group tour online. (And when I find one, the website seems out of date)
Any recommandations for a company that can provide that?
Visiting the Longji Rice Terraces from Guilin as a solo traveler on a budget is definitely feasible, especially with group tours that start and end in Guilin. Late October is after the main harvest period, so the terraces may not be at their greenest, but the landscape still offers good photo opportunities with autumn colors and terraces patterns.
Here are some recommendations for finding a suitable group tour:
- Local travel agencies in Guilin: Many hotels and hostels in Guilin, especially in the city center, partner with local guides who run day tours to Longji. These tours typically include transport (bus or van), entrance fees, and an English-speaking guide. Check with your hotel reception for trusted operators.
- Popular tour companies: Companies such as China Highlights, Guilin Tour, or Viator offer group tours to Longji Rice Terraces. While private tours are more expensive, some of their shared group options are more budget-friendly and include English-speaking guides.
- Online booking platforms: Websites like Klook or GetYourGuide offer day tours from Guilin to Longji. Make sure to select the option with an English-speaking guide and confirm the meeting point in Guilin.
- Hostel or guesthouse notice boards: Many solo travelers find small-group tours arranged by hostels, which are cheaper than commercial agencies and often provide good English-speaking guides.
Additional tips for the trip:
- Start early in the morning to maximize daylight, especially in October when days are shorter.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes; terraces involve steep steps and paths.
- Bring water, snacks, and a lightweight rain jacket in case of sudden showers.
- Confirm tour inclusions in advance (lunch, guide, transportation) and double-check if pick-up from your hotel is possible.
Overall, using a reputable local agency or online booking platform with English support will ensure you have a smooth day trip to Longji Rice Terraces without the stress of navigating public transport or language barriers.
