Restaurant with good parking

I'll be visiting my 94 year old dad (again) in Carmel and I'm looking for restaurants in and around Carmel (can be Pacific Grove, Monterey etc) that have plentiful parking. I have a handicap placard for him but it is hard for find a place to park where he can easily walk in downtown Carmel. So I'm looking for recommendations. However nothing near Carmel Rancho Shopping Center/Crossroads because we've hit all those places before. Also nothing on 17 mile drive. He enjoys Italian, seafood, Chinese and American type foods. He does not like sushi or Mexican. My sister recently brought him to Aliotti's and he liked that. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Finding restaurants in Carmel and the surrounding Monterey Peninsula area with convenient parking can be a bit challenging, especially downtown where streets are narrow. Since your dad has a handicap placard, prioritizing accessible parking spots or restaurants with their own parking lots is ideal. Below are some options that should suit your preferences for Italian, seafood, Chinese, or classic American fare, while avoiding the areas you mentioned.

Italian & Seafood Options:

  • Il Vecchio (Monterey) – A cozy Italian spot with a small parking lot and street parking nearby; very accessible.
  • Fandango Restaurant (Carmel) – Mediterranean and seafood; located on Ocean Ave but has a private parking lot and some handicap spaces.
  • Montrio Bistro (Monterey) – Upscale American/seafood; they have valet parking and street parking with handicap access.
  • Porta Bella (Pacific Grove) – Italian and seafood options; has a small parking lot and street parking that is often available.

American / Casual Options:

  • Casual Joe’s Restaurant (Carmel) – Classic American; some street parking and easy access for handicap placards.
  • The Sardine Factory (Monterey) – Seafood and American fare; private parking lot available, good for limited walking.
  • Bruno’s (Pacific Grove) – Italian-American; has dedicated parking nearby and a short, flat walk into the restaurant.

Chinese Options:

  • New Fong’s (Monterey) – Traditional Chinese cuisine; has a small lot and street parking nearby, manageable for limited mobility.
  • Red House Cafe (Carmel Valley) – Chinese-American options; street parking with handicap spots in front.

Additional Tips:

  • Arrive early to secure the best handicap-accessible spaces, especially downtown Carmel.
  • Call ahead to confirm that parking and accessibility meet your dad’s needs, as some lots are small or may require a short walk.
  • Consider restaurants with valet or dedicated parking lots to minimize walking.

Overall, Fandango, The Sardine Factory, and Bruno’s are excellent options with good parking, accessible entrances, and a menu variety that should appeal to your dad without the hassle of downtown Carmel parking stress.
