airport car rentals
Can anyone recommend a company? All the standard ones are there, with varying prices, all amazingly high right now. Dollar has the cheapest but I don't think they have a very good reputation. Has anyone had any experience with any of them?
Thanks so much.
Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) hosts all the major car rental companies, including Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, and Dollar. Prices can be higher than average during peak travel times, especially in summer, so it’s a good idea to compare rates online and consider booking in advance.
Here’s a summary of experiences and considerations for the main rental companies at GJT:
- Enterprise: Known for excellent customer service and reliable vehicles. Pickup and drop-off are generally smooth, and they often have newer cars. Prices may be slightly higher than the cheapest options.
- Hertz: Offers a wide selection of vehicles and a generally straightforward rental experience. Some users report occasional upselling of insurance or extra fees, so clarify total costs at booking.
- Avis/Budget: These are often convenient for travelers looking for a wide variety of vehicles. Avis is usually a bit pricier, while Budget sometimes has better deals but can be slower at counter service.
- Alamo: Popular with families and travelers looking for self-service pickup options. Typically efficient, with competitive pricing.
- Dollar: Known for lower rates, but some travelers report mixed experiences with vehicle condition and customer service. It can be a good choice if price is the top priority, but consider checking recent reviews.
Additional tips when renting at Grand Junction Airport:
- Check for any discount codes or AAA/credit card offers, which can help offset high rates.
- Book early, especially during summer or holiday weekends, as availability can be limited.
- Inspect the car carefully before leaving the lot and take photos of any pre-existing damage.
- Confirm fuel policy and insurance coverage to avoid unexpected charges.
- Consider off-airport locations if you have extra time; sometimes rates are slightly lower, though convenience will be reduced.
In summary, for reliability and overall experience, Enterprise and Hertz are generally safe bets at Grand Junction Airport, while Dollar and Budget can offer cost savings if you are willing to be flexible. Always read recent reviews for the specific location, as customer service quality can vary by branch.
