Maui Egg Hunt

Wondering how difficult it is to purchase eggs in Maui . My husband & I will be staying in Napili area in April & would like to purchase just a dozen or so of eggs .Not too concerned about price, just availability . We don’t want to spend a day or driving all over the island looking for eggs. I haven’t heard if Costco is getting any . We land late afternoon & plan on Costco shopping before heading to W Maui. Any shipment of eggs at the Costcos here are gone by afternoon . So if no eggs available , just pick another option.

Finding eggs in Maui during April, especially around Easter, can be a bit tricky due to high demand from both locals and visitors. While most stores do carry eggs regularly, the supply may be limited at larger wholesale stores like Costco, particularly if you arrive later in the day. Costco shipments often sell out quickly, especially around holiday weekends.

For purchasing a small quantity of eggs without having to drive all over the island, here are some options:

  • Local Grocery Stores:
    • Safeway, Foodland, and Times Supermarket locations across Maui typically carry eggs daily. Safeway and Foodland have multiple stores in the Napili/Kaanapali area, so it should be convenient.
    • These stores usually keep regular cartons in stock throughout the day, and since you only need a dozen or so, availability is generally reliable.
  • Costco Maui:
    • Costco in Kahului or Kihei may carry eggs, but as you mentioned, shipments often sell out quickly around holidays. Arriving earlier in the day increases your chances.
    • If eggs are sold out, Costco staff may be able to advise when the next shipment is expected, which can help you plan.
  • Farmers’ Markets:
    • Maui has several farmers’ markets that sell fresh local eggs. Some markets may operate daily, but others have specific days. For Napili, the Lahaina Farmers’ Market is nearby, and you can usually purchase small quantities directly from vendors.
    • These eggs are often farm-fresh and may be organic or free-range, adding a nice local touch to your purchase.
  • Specialty or health food stores:
    • Whole Foods in Kahului or health food shops may carry eggs, including specialty types like organic or free-range. Since you only need a dozen, availability is typically good.

Overall, your best approach is to plan for a quick stop at a local grocery store near Napili, such as Foodland or Safeway, which are reliable for small purchases. Costco can be tried first if convenient, but don’t count on it for a late afternoon arrival. Farmers’ markets are a great alternative if you want locally produced eggs, but check their hours in advance.

In short, purchasing a dozen eggs in Maui in April is not difficult, but timing matters more at large wholesale stores. Grocery stores and markets will reliably meet your needs with minimal driving.
