Christmas lights in Maui

Will be visiting next week for 5 days with parents.

Just wondering if someone can suggest places to see Christmas lights.

Maui is a beautiful place to experience holiday lights, and even though it's warm and tropical, the island still embraces the holiday spirit with festive decorations and displays. Here are some places you can check out for Christmas lights and holiday decorations during your visit:

1. Lahaina Banyan Tree Park

  • The Lahaina Banyan Tree gets beautifully decorated for Christmas every year, with thousands of twinkling lights draped around its massive branches. The area is a popular holiday destination, and during December, you'll find festive lights along Front Street, making it a lovely spot to walk around with your family after dark.

2. The Maui Mall

  • Located in Kahului, the Maui Mall features a wonderful display of holiday lights and Christmas decorations. They typically host family-friendly events, and you can find some seasonal shopping, entertainment, and light displays around the mall area.

3. Kihei's Christmas Lights

  • Kihei has several neighborhoods that are known for their elaborate Christmas lights. The homes along certain streets get decked out with beautiful displays, and some even have synchronized light shows. It's a great way to enjoy the holiday spirit in a relaxed, residential setting. The neighborhoods around South Kihei Road, especially near the Wailea area, usually have a few standout houses with impressive light displays.

4. Hotel and Resort Displays

  • Many of Maui's top hotels and resorts decorate their properties with beautiful Christmas lights and holiday decorations. Some places to check out include:
    • The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua – They typically have a grand holiday display with lights, Christmas trees, and festive decorations throughout the property.
    • Grand Wailea Resort – Another hotel that goes all out with its holiday decorations, often featuring themed light displays and lavish holiday décor.

5. Maui's 'Festival of Lights' at the Maui County Fairgrounds

  • Though the dates vary each year, the Maui County Fairgrounds in Wailuku typically hosts a "Festival of Lights" that is a must-see. The event includes thousands of Christmas lights, holiday-themed displays, and even visits with Santa. It's one of the island's largest holiday light shows and definitely worth the visit if it's available during your trip.

6. Hana Christmas Lights

  • If you're in the area or planning a road trip to Hana, keep an eye out for local homes along the way that get into the Christmas spirit. While Hana itself isn’t known for big commercial displays, many locals put up beautiful lights and decorations on their homes that are worth seeing.

While Maui doesn't have the same kind of massive light displays as some places on the mainland, the island's local charm and smaller, community-driven decorations create a unique and festive atmosphere. Don't forget to stop by a few resorts or shopping areas to soak up the holiday cheer, and enjoy the tropical island setting with a touch of Christmas magic!

Enjoy your trip to Maui and happy holidays!
