Runaway Bay Renovations
We have rented here from the UK for several years and due to visit again this year.
Does anyone know how the renovation work is progressing please? Is the Swimming Pool back in operation? Does the campus look like a building site?
It would be good to hear from anyone who has stayed there in the last couple of months with an update, particularly whether the renovations had any negative impact on the enjoyment of their vacation.
Thank you in anticipation of some feedback.
Good question. I found several recent (2025) updates from vacation-rental managers and condo rental companies about the renovation status at Runaway Bay, so here’s a detailed summary of what’s going on and what to expect based on the most up-to-date public information.
Current Status of Renovations at Runaway Bay
- Pool & Fitness Center Closed (for now): According to Anna Maria Vacations, as of May 2025, the Runaway Bay community pool and fitness center are temporarily closed.
- Historic Pool Reopening Scheduled: Dan’s Florida Condos (which manages many Runaway Bay units) reports that the community’s large, heated saltwater pool is undergoing a full interior rebuild — new pump, filter, and heating systems are being installed.
- Estimated Pool Reopen Date: The pool is expected to reopen around September/October 2025, pending final inspections.
- Fitness Center: Also under renovation. Some rental listings note that the fitness center remains temporarily closed.
- Pier / Observation Deck: The Runaway Bay fishing pier (also known as the observation deck) has been rebuilt and is now open.
- Courts Still Available: Tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard and bocce courts remain open in many of the rental listings, so you can still enjoy some outdoor recreation even while the pool is offline.
Guest Feedback / Experience:
- Some condo rental hosts (e.g., on BestBeachGetaways) note that while most amenities are restored, “a few neighboring condos may still have light renovation activity.”
- According to Dan’s Florida Condos, while the pool and gym are closed, guests are using a common space called “The Patio,” which has lounge chairs, shade umbrellas, and even a Weber grill.
- Overall, there don’t seem to be major reports of loud, constant construction in recent guest reviews — most updates mention “light daytime renovation activity” in neighboring units rather than active heavy construction.
Summary & Advice:
Yes — there is active renovation work at Runaway Bay, particularly on the pool and fitness center, but it’s not a full-on construction zone: many amenities are down temporarily, but key recreational features (like courts and the pier) are open or being restored. The big news is that the heated saltwater pool (the community’s centerpiece) is expected to be fully back up by fall 2025.
If you're visiting soon:
- Be prepared that the pool will not be available until probably September/October.
- Ask your rental manager or host exactly what “temporarily closed” means for your booked condo — some units report only light nearby renovation.
- Use alternate amenities like The Patio, the pier, and the sports courts, which are mostly available.
If you prefer a place with a working pool now, you may want to check with your rental agency about other nearby properties not undergoing renovation.
Hope that helps — enjoy your trip back to Runaway Bay! 😊
