Runaway Bay Renovations

We have rented here from the UK for several years and due to visit again this year.

Does anyone know how the renovation work is progressing please? Is the Swimming Pool back in operation? Does the campus look like a building site?

It would be good to hear from anyone who has stayed there in the last couple of months with an update, particularly whether the renovations had any negative impact on the enjoyment of their vacation.

Good question. I found several recent (2025) updates from vacation-rental managers and condo rental companies about the renovation status at Runaway Bay, so here’s a detailed summary of what’s going on and what to expect based on the most up-to-date public information.

Current Status of Renovations at Runaway Bay

• Pool & Fitness Center Closed (for now): According to Anna Maria Vacations, as of May 2025, the Runaway Bay community pool and fitness center are temporarily closed.
• Historic Pool Reopening Scheduled: Dan’s Florida Condos (which manages many Runaway Bay units) reports that the community’s large, heated saltwater pool is undergoing a full interior rebuild — new pump, filter, and heating systems are being installed.
• Estimated Pool Reopen Date: The pool is expected to reopen around September/October 2025, pending final inspections.
• Fitness Center: Also under renovation. Some rental listings note that the fitness center remains temporarily closed.
• Pier / Observation Deck: The Runaway Bay fishing pier (also known as the observation deck) has been rebuilt and is now open.
• Courts Still Available: Tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard and bocce courts remain open in many of the rental listings, so you can still enjoy some outdoor recreation even while the pool is offline.
