Where to see sunset?

the plan below and help with the questions?

On Apr 15 I will Drive to GC east entrance. Stop at desert view and if tickets are available do the desert view watchtower. Then continue driving and stop at lipan, Moran and Grandview points. Then drive down to Hopi house I am expecting this whole trip from arrival to visiting all these places to take about 2.5 hours. So if I complete lunch around 2:00 pm, I should be done with all these by max 5:00 pm. Can someone tell me where I would go for sunset? I am hearing some commentary that parking lots become full. Where should I park and watch sunset? Also do I plan the geology center and visitor center on same day next day since I won't have time for them in 15th?

Your itinerary for April 15 along the East Rim (Desert View, Lipan, Moran, Grandview, and Hopi House) is very doable in 2.5–3 hours if you keep the stops brief and focus on viewpoints rather than long hikes. Since you will finish around 5:00 pm, sunset at the Grand Canyon in mid-April is usually around 6:50–7:00 pm, giving you about 1.5–2 hours before sunset to find a good spot.

For sunset viewing, consider the following:

  • Hopi Point: Often recommended as the best sunset spot due to wide, unobstructed views. The parking lot fills quickly, but you can park along the road near the viewpoint if needed.
  • Pima Point: Less crowded than Hopi, with great panoramic views of the Colorado River. Small parking lot, so early arrival is advised.
  • Mohave Point: A solid alternative if Hopi is full; slightly less crowded and still offers dramatic views of the canyon.
  • Yaki Point: Accessible only by shuttle unless you are staying inside the park; generally quieter but a bit more limited for car parking.

Tips for sunset:

  • Arrive at least 30–45 minutes before sunset to claim a good spot and enjoy changing light conditions.
  • Bring a jacket as it can be chilly near the rim in the evening.
  • Consider using a tripod if you want good photos in low light.
  • Be prepared for limited restroom facilities at some viewpoints.

Regarding the Geology Center and Visitor Center: yes, it makes sense to visit them the following day since your 15th is focused on the East Rim drive. Both centers are close to the Grand Canyon Village area, so you can combine them with a few shorter rim hikes or other viewpoints that are near the village. This will allow you to explore educational displays without feeling rushed.
