Transport from hotel
We are travelling to HK on May first week .
6 adults & 4 kids . Planning to stay in holiday inn golden mile & would betaking a ferry to reach Macau for a one night . So I would like to know what’s the best way to travel from the hotel to the hongkong ferry terminal(shueng wan) as we would be having our luggage along .
Traveling from Holiday Inn Golden Mile in Tsim Sha Tsui to the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal (Shun Tak Centre in Sheung Wan) with 6 adults, 4 kids, and luggage requires a balance of convenience, cost, and ease of handling bags. Here are the main options:
1. Taxi / Minivan:
- Taking a taxi is the most convenient option, especially with children and luggage. A regular taxi can fit some luggage, but with 10 passengers you may need to book 2 taxis or a larger van (maxi taxi / private car service).
- Approximate travel time: 25–35 minutes depending on traffic.
- Advantages: Door-to-door service, no need to handle transfers or stairs, faster.
- Disadvantages: More expensive than public transport, may require booking a minivan in advance for 10 people.
2. MTR + Walking:
- From Tsim Sha Tsui Station (near Holiday Inn Golden Mile), take the Tsuen Wan Line northbound to Central Station, then transfer to the Island Line to Sheung Wan Station.
- From Sheung Wan Station, it’s about a 10-minute walk to Shun Tak Centre (Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal).
- Advantages: Cost-effective, frequent trains, reliable timing.
- Disadvantages: Handling luggage and children on escalators and station transfers can be cumbersome.
3. Airport / Hotel Shuttle Services:
- Some travel agencies or private companies offer shuttle vans or minibuses for transfers to Sheung Wan ferry terminal. These can be pre-booked and can accommodate groups with luggage.
- Advantages: Comfort, less walking, can handle all luggage.
- Disadvantages: Needs advance booking, slightly higher cost than public transport.
Recommendation:
- For a group of your size with children and luggage, a pre-booked private minivan or 2 taxis is the easiest and least stressful option.
- If you want a cheaper alternative and can manage luggage, MTR is feasible but requires handling stairs and transfers.
- Allow extra time for travel, especially during peak morning or evening hours, as traffic can affect taxis and shuttles.
Overall, prioritize convenience and luggage handling given your group size, so a private vehicle or taxi is the most practical for a smooth start to your Macau trip.
