Staying one night and full day in early March. We were planning on staying at Marriott Marina Del Rey because of good walking options for me (beach, Venice canals, shops) in case husband has to work from the hotel part of the day. Beaches are now closed indefinitely down to Playa Del Rey. We want to stay somewhat near LAX. Depending on how long he has to work, we hope to visit the Petersen Auto Museum, LaBrea rate pits. Need a Marriott property. Thoughts on whether we should change our Marina Del Rey reservation to a different property? Thanks.

Given your plans for early March, staying near LAX and wanting Marriott accommodations, your Marina del Rey reservation still has merits despite the beach closures. While public beaches in the area may be restricted, the neighborhood still offers scenic walks along the marina, nearby shops, and canals that remain accessible. For your husband, the hotel setting will provide a quiet work environment.

If you prioritize easy access to major LA museums like the Petersen Automotive Museum and La Brea Tar Pits, a more central location near Hollywood or Mid-Wilshire might save driving time, but that would mean moving further from LAX. Staying near Marina del Rey keeps you close to the airport for a short transit before or after your stay, which can be convenient if your schedule is tight.

  • Stay at Marriott Marina del Rey: Pros – close to LAX, scenic walking routes along marina and canals, quiet and suitable for working. Cons – beaches closed, more driving to museums.
  • Consider Marriott in Century City or Beverly Hills: Pros – closer to Petersen Museum and La Brea Tar Pits (about 15–20 minutes drive), easy access to shopping and dining, still Marriott properties. Cons – further from LAX and coastal walks.
  • Marriott near Downtown LA or Hollywood: Pros – fastest access to museums, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Cons – traffic heavier, less scenic outdoor walks, further from airport.

In summary, if your main priorities are convenience for the airport, calm surroundings, and walkable areas (even if beaches are closed), sticking with Marina del Rey is fine. If visiting museums efficiently and reducing driving time is more important, you might consider switching to a Marriott in Century City or Mid-Wilshire.

Ultimately, given it’s only one night, the Marina del Rey stay is still reasonable and will offer a pleasant, low-stress environment for both work and leisure.
