LAX to Marina Del Ray, Venice Beach & Santa Monica
Hi, Will be staying at an LAX Airport before we drive to Vegas the next day.
Looking at the best way to get from LAX to Marina Del Ray, Venice Beach and Santa Monica just for a few hours. Is there a shuttle similar to a hop on/hop off that can take you from the Airport?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
For a short visit from LAX to Marina Del Rey, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica, there isn’t a dedicated hop-on/hop-off shuttle that connects directly from the airport. However, there are several practical ways to make the most of a few hours to see these areas.
Transportation Options:
- Rideshare or Taxi: Using Uber or Lyft is the most convenient way to visit all three locations in a few hours. You can request a ride from LAX and move between Marina Del Rey, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica at your own pace. This avoids waiting for transfers or schedules.
- Private Shuttle or Car Service: Several companies offer private airport transfers that can be customized for a short sightseeing route. You can book a car for 3–4 hours and have the driver take you to each spot, which is ideal if you want a relaxed pace without relying on public transport.
- Public Transit: While Metro buses and the light rail can get you to Santa Monica (Metro Bus or FlyAway to Metro Expo Line), getting to Marina Del Rey and Venice Beach is less direct and can be time-consuming if you only have a few hours.
Suggested Approach for a Few Hours:
- Pick one or two destinations rather than all three to avoid feeling rushed.
- If time allows, start at Marina Del Rey for a short walk along the marina and maybe grab a coffee.
- Next, head to Venice Beach to experience the boardwalk, street performers, and Muscle Beach. A 45–60 minute stroll gives you a good feel for the area.
- Finish at Santa Monica, walk the pier, or grab a quick snack/dinner before heading back to LAX or your hotel. Traffic can be heavy, so allow extra time for the drive.
Additional Tips:
- Plan for traffic, especially if visiting in the late afternoon or evening, as LA congestion can slow your route.
- Parking is easier in Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey compared to Venice Beach. Consider using paid lots or street parking meters for convenience.
- If you prefer a guided option, some local tour companies offer short city tours from LAX or Santa Monica that include Venice Beach highlights. These are usually fixed duration but provide local commentary.
In summary, rideshare or a private car service is your best option for a short multi-stop visit from LAX. Public transit is slower, and there isn’t a hop-on/hop-off directly from the airport, but focusing on two locations makes a few hours enjoyable without feeling rushed.
