Boulder Lodge, keep going just the worst

We hadn't booked a place for Sunday evening so on our journey north we decided to stop off at June Lake, first try was Double Eagle who wanted a two night stay, so we drove around and stopped off at Boulder Lodge as it was getting late. We paid our almost $200 for one night walked to our room #207 oh my, it was disgusting. I don't know where to start other than it was probably the worst room we have ever stayed in.

All the handles on any draws broken off, dirty carpet, towels smelled, bathroom tiles coming off the wall. The bedding was not the cleanest, beds well used, pillows flat as a pancake, we checked and checked to make sure there were no bed bugs didn't see any thankfully. I went to the office about the internet, I was told it didn't reach our room we were welcome to sit in the office to use my laptop if needed, no thanks. Had to go back later for a hairdryer. Please save yourself the money and go someplace else, anywhere would be better than this place. it was awful I wish I was saying it was nice but it wasn't.

Oh we had to leave by 8am as the power was being switched off. All that for almost $200, talk about being had, we feel so foolish for not checking the room before handing over our credit card and being taken for a fool. Just keep driving don't waste your money here.

It sounds like your experience at Boulder Lodge in June Lake was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately, these types of stays can really affect a trip. Based on your description, the issues were extensive, including cleanliness, maintenance, and lack of basic amenities.

Key problems you encountered:

  • Broken and poorly maintained furniture, including drawer handles and bathroom tiles.
  • Dirty carpet and towels with unpleasant odors.
  • Unclean bedding and worn-out, flat pillows.
  • Limited internet access that didn't reach your room.
  • Inconvenient access to amenities like a hairdryer and power being switched off early in the morning.
  • Overall poor customer service and lack of support for issues in the room.

Given your experience, it’s clear that Boulder Lodge may not meet the standards most travelers expect, particularly for a rate around $200 per night. For future reference, you may want to consider:

  • Checking reviews on multiple platforms, including recent traveler photos and detailed reports on room conditions.
  • Contacting the hotel ahead of time to confirm room amenities and any ongoing maintenance issues.
  • Exploring alternative nearby lodging options in June Lake, which may be slightly more expensive but offer better service, cleanliness, and comfort.

Some alternatives in the June Lake area include:

  • June Lake Lodge – Known for scenic views, clean rooms, and friendly service.
  • Sierra Lodge – Small and cozy with well-maintained rooms.
  • Vacation rentals or cabins in the area – Often newer, with full kitchens and private space, good for flexibility.

Overall, your advice to other travelers is valid: if a place shows signs of poor maintenance and cleanliness, it’s often better to keep driving and find something that ensures a more comfortable and worry-free stay.
