Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport
Looking for suggestions, we get off our cruise ship in the am in Port Canaveral, our flight doesn't leave Orlando until 6:30 PM. Currently we're schedule to take Disney Springs Express to Disney Springs then on to the airport. Doing some research and I'm not seeing much for positive reviews for this service so I'm questioning if we should look into other options.
Has anyone had any experience with this shuttle service or could offer other suggestions how to get from Port Canaveral to the airport and what to do to kill time before flight.
Thanks!
It sounds like you have some extra time after your cruise before your flight, so it's understandable that you'd want to ensure you're getting the most reliable and comfortable transportation. The Disney Springs Express shuttle can be convenient, but as you mentioned, reviews are mixed. There are other options to consider, depending on your priorities for comfort, cost, and convenience.
Here are some alternative transportation options from Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport (MCO):
- Private Shuttle Services – Companies like Mears Transportation or Cocoa Beach Shuttle offer private or shared shuttle services directly from Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport. These services are more comfortable and flexible, and the shuttle will drop you directly at the airport without any extra stops. Although more expensive than Disney Springs Express, it's a more reliable option with better reviews.
- Rental Cars – If you're comfortable with renting a car, there are several rental car agencies at Port Canaveral. Renting a car would give you flexibility and freedom to explore on your own schedule before heading to the airport. You could also drop off the rental car directly at Orlando Airport. Just keep in mind you'll need to account for the cost of renting a car and gas, but this option gives you the ability to stop for lunch or visit a nearby attraction before your flight.
- Taxi or Ride-sharing Services (Uber/Lyft) – If you prefer a more private and flexible ride, both taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft are available at Port Canaveral. You can schedule a ride for a direct transfer to the airport or take your time with a few stops along the way. Ride-sharing is typically affordable and offers a more personalized experience.
- Explore the Cocoa Beach Area – If you have a few hours before heading to the airport, consider spending some time in Cocoa Beach, which is just a short drive from Port Canaveral. You can relax on the beach, grab a bite at one of the oceanfront restaurants, or shop for souvenirs. The Cocoa Beach Pier is a nice spot to hang out and enjoy the view before heading to the airport.
- Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex – If you haven't been before and have some extra time, the Kennedy Space Center is a fantastic stop. It's only about 20 minutes from Port Canaveral, and you can explore the exhibits and space-related attractions before making your way to the airport. It's an easy way to spend a few hours and kill time before your flight.
Ultimately, the best option depends on how much time you have, how comfortable you want to be, and how much you're willing to spend. The rental car or private shuttle services are probably the most reliable options if you want a smooth experience and a direct ride to the airport. If you prefer a bit of exploration before your flight, Cocoa Beach or the Kennedy Space Center are great ways to kill time!
