As part of our California road trip we are stopping off at Berkeley for a concert en route to Napa where we have two nights booked. We are wondering whether to head straight to Napa after the concert and book an additional two nights or is there somewhere along the Berkeley - Napa route that would be interesting to stay/visit?
Driving from Berkeley to Napa, you have a few excellent options if you want to break up the trip and explore some interesting spots along the way. The direct drive usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, but adding a stop can make your road trip more enjoyable.
One great area to explore is the Carneros region, which is famous for its rolling vineyards, boutique wineries, and charming small towns. This region sits at the southern edge of Napa and Sonoma counties and is an ideal halfway stop for wine tasting or a scenic break.
If you prefer staying overnight before reaching Napa, the towns along the route provide several lodging options that offer a cozy and scenic alternative to Napa itself.
If your schedule allows, adding an extra night in one of these areas can enrich your road trip, allowing you to enjoy the scenery, local wineries, and small-town charm before arriving in Napa. Otherwise, heading straight to Napa after the concert is also reasonable, especially if you are eager to settle in for your two-night stay and explore Napa Valley fully.
