Travel from Wuhan airport to Hankou train station.

Hi, I need some help. I'm arriving at Wuhan international airport from Shanghai at 10.30 am and news to get to Hankou railway station to catch a train to Wudangahan. If I catch a cab or taxi, how long will I take to reach Hangkou railway station?

Rome2rio says about 20 mins but chinaairtravel says 50 mins.

Not sure which is correct. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Traveling from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport to Hankou Railway Station is straightforward, but the actual travel time depends heavily on the mode of transport and traffic conditions.

Distance and general timing:

The airport is approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of Hankou Railway Station. Under light traffic, the drive can take around 30–40 minutes. However, during peak hours, heavy city traffic can easily extend the journey to 50–60 minutes. So both sources you mentioned reflect possible scenarios: Rome2rio’s 20 minutes is optimistic and likely underestimates real traffic conditions, while ChinaAirTravel’s 50 minutes is more realistic for typical morning traffic.

Transportation options:

  • Taxi or ride-hailing: Taking a taxi or app-based ride (Didi) is the most direct and comfortable option. Expect 30–50 minutes depending on traffic. Cost is roughly 120–160 CNY. Morning rush around 10:30 am might add some delay.
  • Airport Express + Metro: You can take the Wuhan Airport Express Line to the city and transfer to Line 2 or 3 of the metro to reach Hankou Station. This may take 50–60 minutes including walking and transfer time. This option avoids traffic uncertainty.
  • Shuttle bus: Airport shuttle buses to major railway stations are available. A shuttle to Hankou Railway Station may take around 60–70 minutes due to multiple stops and city traffic.

Recommendation:

  • For convenience and luggage handling, a taxi or Didi ride is recommended.
  • Leave at least 1 hour buffer time to account for traffic and possible airport exit delays.
  • If traveling on a tight train schedule, consider checking live traffic apps (Baidu Maps or Gaode Maps) before leaving the airport.

In summary, realistically budget 40–50 minutes for a taxi ride from Wuhan Airport to Hankou Railway Station around 10:30 am. Using public transport may take slightly longer but avoids the risk of traffic delays.
