Best tour?
Hi All,
Planning to spend a couple days in town for my 40th birthday. It'll be myself, my husband, and my two girls (16/12). We want to do a ghost tour or a witch tour -- or something of the like. Paranormal too. Any of the above. What is the best tour in your opinion? The spookier the better. Thanks!
Happy early 40th birthday! Salem is the perfect spot for spooky tours, and there are several options that should give you and your family a fun, eerie experience. If you're looking for the spookiest and most paranormal tours, here are some of the best options to consider:
- Salem Ghost Tours: One of the most popular options, Salem Ghost Tours offers evening tours that explore the haunted locations around town. They cover the history of Salem’s dark past, including the witch trials, and are known for being quite spooky, with guides who really get into the eerie storytelling. The tours typically take you to places like the Old Burying Point Cemetery and the infamous House of Seven Gables. If you want something that mixes both history and paranormal intrigue, this is a solid choice.
- Witchcraft & Ghost Tour by New England Legends: This tour is unique in that it combines the history of Salem with paranormal investigation. It’s a bit more interactive, where you can experience some ghost-hunting techniques with an expert guide, and they provide ghost-hunting equipment for you to use during the tour. It’s perfect if you’re really looking to dive into the paranormal side of Salem, and the stories are pretty intense for those looking for a spooky experience.
- Gallows Hill Tour: This is a particularly creepy and informative tour, as it focuses on the more macabre aspects of Salem’s history, including the infamous hangings during the witch trials. The guide takes you through the Gallows Hill area, where 19 people were executed. This tour is for those looking to dive deep into the history of the witch trials while hearing spine-chilling tales of the past. It’s especially eerie at night, adding to the spooky atmosphere.
- Haunted Footsteps Ghost Tour: Another highly rated tour that’s perfect for spooky enthusiasts. The guides are known for their dramatic storytelling, taking you through Salem's darkest secrets, including haunted sites, strange happenings, and creepy legends. This tour is ideal if you want something more theatrical with a focus on both the supernatural and the historical side of Salem.
- Salem Witch Walk: If you're specifically interested in the witch side of things, this walking tour is dedicated to exploring Salem’s rich history of witchcraft and its infamous trials. It focuses more on the historical events but also has a spooky undertone. The Witch Walk includes tales of witches who lived in Salem and ghost stories surrounding witchcraft practices, with a focus on both education and fun. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a mix of history and the supernatural.
All of these tours will give you and your family a good dose of spooky, whether you want to focus more on ghosts, witches, or the paranormal. For the spookiest experience, I’d recommend checking out the Gallows Hill Tour or the Witchcraft & Ghost Tour by New England Legends. They tend to be the most immersive and eerie, especially if you're hoping for a frightful adventure!
Enjoy your birthday trip to Salem, and I hope it's filled with plenty of thrills and chills!
