Where To Rent

We're planning our first trip to St. Simons. We normally go to Kiawah but wanted to do something different this year. We would love to rent a cottage but have no idea what area would be best to stay in. We also would enjoy having a pool close by. Any suggestions?

St. Simons Island is a fantastic destination with a variety of rental options that cater to different preferences, and it’s great that you’re exploring the island for your first visit! Here’s a breakdown of the best areas to stay in and rental options with pools:

Areas to Stay on St. Simons Island:

  • Oceanfront/Beachfront Areas: If you want easy access to the beach and enjoy a coastal atmosphere, consider staying in one of the oceanfront areas like East Beach. This area is close to the beach, and many cottages and vacation rentals here have easy access to the shoreline. There are also rental properties with private pools in this area, offering the best of both worlds: beach and pool.
  • Village Area: For those who want to be close to the shops, restaurants, and attractions, The Village area near the pier is perfect. It’s a charming spot with a variety of dining and entertainment options, and you can find some cottages and rental homes with pools. The Village is also close to the St. Simons Island Lighthouse and the historic sites, which is great if you like to explore.
  • Sea Island: If you’re looking for a more luxurious experience, Sea Island is the area for you. It’s a private island with resort-style properties and more upscale cottages that often come with pools, making it a great choice if you’re looking for privacy and premium amenities.
  • West End of St. Simons Island: This area is more residential and quieter, with fewer tourists, making it ideal if you prefer a peaceful environment. There are several lovely cottages here that are close to the beach and some with private pools. You’ll enjoy a more relaxed, low-key vibe while still being able to explore the island easily.

Types of Rentals with Pools:

  • Private Cottages with Pools: Many vacation rentals on the island offer cottages with private pools. These are perfect for families or those looking for more privacy. You can check sites like VRBO, Airbnb, or local rental agencies on the island for listings that fit your needs.
  • Condo Rentals with Shared Pools: If you’re open to a condo-style rental, there are several condos with access to shared pools. This is a good option if you prefer something a bit more affordable while still having access to pool facilities.
  • Resorts with Cottages: Some resort properties on Sea Island and in the Village area also offer cottages with private or shared pools. These options often come with additional amenities, like beach access and golf privileges, making them a great choice for a more resort-style experience.

Other Things to Consider:

  • Proximity to Attractions: If you plan to visit many of the island’s historic sites or go to the pier, staying near The Village or East Beach would make it easier to explore these areas. The Village also offers easy access to restaurants, coffee shops, and local stores.
  • Quiet or Busy: The areas closer to the beach tend to be busier, especially during peak seasons, while more residential areas like West End are quieter and more private. Consider whether you’d prefer a more active or peaceful environment during your stay.
  • Family-Friendly: Many of the rentals, especially those with pools, are very family-friendly, with safe environments for kids. If you’re traveling with young children, look for properties that are close to parks or the beach to keep everyone entertained.

For your first trip to St. Simons, it’s ideal to stay in a location that balances beach access, local attractions, and amenities. The Village and East Beach areas are great for first-timers as they offer both convenience and proximity to the island’s highlights. And, of course, a private pool will definitely add an extra layer of relaxation and fun to your trip!

Enjoy your vacation on St. Simons Island! It’s a beautiful and relaxing destination for all ages.
