Accomodations
We are wanting to spend 3 nights in Tybee Island after being at Charleston and Savannah. We have never been before and need advice on where to stay on the island and what specific accommodation is recommended. We would like to be able to walk to bars and restaurants if possible and near the beach. Thank you
Tybee Island is a wonderful place to unwind, offering beautiful beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and a variety of charming accommodations. Since you want to stay within walking distance of bars, restaurants, and the beach, I’ll outline a few areas on the island that are ideal for your stay, along with some specific accommodation recommendations:
Best Areas to Stay on Tybee Island:
Tybee Island is small, but there are a few neighborhoods that are perfect for easy access to the beach and local amenities like bars and restaurants. Here are the main areas to consider:
- The South Beach Area: This is the most popular area on Tybee Island, and it’s where you’ll find many of the island’s bars, restaurants, and attractions. It’s also the most convenient area for easy access to the beach. Staying here will put you within walking distance of the famous Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, as well as several dining spots and nightlife options.
- The North Beach Area: A quieter area compared to South Beach, North Beach is closer to the lighthouse and Fort Pulaski National Monument. While it’s a bit further from the main restaurant and bar scene, you’ll still find some great spots to explore. It’s ideal if you prefer a more relaxed vibe with easy beach access.
Accommodation Recommendations:
For your three-night stay, here are some accommodations that are ideally located for both the beach and restaurants, providing easy access to Tybee’s attractions:
- The Beachview Inn: Located just one block from the beach in the South Beach area, this budget-friendly option offers clean and comfortable rooms with a tropical vibe. You’ll be within walking distance to the pier, restaurants, and bars, making it an excellent choice for those who want convenience without breaking the bank.
- Hotel Tybee: Also located near South Beach, Hotel Tybee offers a more classic, relaxed beach experience with oceanfront rooms. The hotel has an outdoor pool, a beach bar, and is within walking distance of the island’s main restaurants and shops. It’s a popular choice for both families and couples, providing easy beach access and proximity to local eateries.
- Tybee Island Inn: For a more boutique experience, Tybee Island Inn is a charming, intimate bed-and-breakfast located close to the beach and several popular restaurants. The inn offers a cozy atmosphere, including a lovely garden area, and is perfect for those who prefer a more personalized stay. Breakfast is included, and it’s within walking distance of the South Beach area.
- The Georgian Terrace: Located in the South Beach area, this historic inn features a range of comfortable rooms, some with ocean views. Guests appreciate its proximity to the beach and local dining options. The Georgian Terrace has a relaxed, old-fashioned charm and is ideal for a laid-back getaway near the island’s most popular attractions.
- Vacation Rentals (Airbnb/VRBO): If you’re looking for more space and the ability to cook your own meals, renting a vacation home or condo is another great option. You can find properties throughout the island, especially near South Beach, with easy access to both the beach and local nightlife. Many rentals offer fully equipped kitchens and multiple bedrooms, ideal if you’re traveling with family or friends.
Dining and Entertainment Nearby:
In addition to being near the beach, these accommodations will also place you close to Tybee Island’s best dining and entertainment options. Some popular spots you’ll want to check out include:
- The Breakfast Club: A local favorite for breakfast, located near South Beach, known for its delicious omelets and pancakes.
- A-J’s Dockside Restaurant: A casual waterfront spot where you can enjoy seafood and drinks with a great view of the Back River.
- The Crab Shack: Located on Lazaretto Creek, this is one of Tybee’s most iconic restaurants, offering seafood platters and a laid-back vibe.
- Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion: A great spot to stroll and watch the waves. It’s also home to several small beach bars and cafes.
