i've been using booking, found well reviewed places for $50-$60 a night... i can't tell if that's a lot or a solid deal in china (Beijing Zhong'an Hotel and ampanile Xi'an Bell Tower Huimin Street, has anyone stayed in either?)
what do you recommend using? or is either fine
Both Booking.com and Trip.com are widely used for hotel reservations in China, and each has its own advantages. Recommendation: Either Booking.com or Trip.com can work. For first-time visitors, Booking.com is often easier to navigate and understand reviews, but Trip.com can occasionally provide slightly better deals or access to hotels that aren’t listed internationally. If possible, check both platforms and compare prices, cancellation policies, and room inclusions before booking.
