Valley of Fire State Park Season Trail Closures 05/15-10/01

From the website/Facebook page of KTNV news channel:

"The Valley of Fire State Park will start its seasonal trail closures on Thursday, May 15.

The affected trails include Fire Wave, Seven Wonders Loop, Pastel Canyon Prospect, Arrowhead, Pinnacles, White Domes, Charlie Springs and Natural Arches Trails.

The closures are meant to prioritize visitor safety due to extreme heat and hazardous weather conditions. These trails have a history of frequent medical calls, search and rescue missions, and fatalities during this time of year, according to Nevada State Parks. The closures will happen from Thursday, May 15, through Wednesday, October 1."

From the information I was able to obtain, the road through the state park remains open, the closures only affect the trails.

The seasonal trail closures in Valley of Fire State Park from May 15 to October 1 are a safety measure due to extreme heat and hazardous weather conditions. During this period, the following trails will be closed:

  • Fire Wave
  • Seven Wonders Loop
  • Pastel Canyon Prospect
  • Arrowhead
  • Pinnacles
  • White Domes
  • Charlie Springs
  • Natural Arches Trails

The closures are primarily due to the high temperatures, which have led to numerous medical emergencies, search and rescue operations, and unfortunately, fatalities in past years. The Nevada State Parks Department has decided to close these trails for the safety of visitors during the hottest months of the year.

Importantly, while these trails are closed, the road through the state park remains open. Visitors can still drive through the park and enjoy the stunning desert landscapes, but hiking these trails will not be possible until after October 1.

If you plan to visit the Valley of Fire during this time, you can still enjoy some of the park’s scenic drives and other non-hiking activities. However, if you are hoping to hike, it would be best to plan your visit outside of the summer months, or focus on visiting after October 1 when the trails reopen. Always check with the park’s official website or local news for any updates on trail conditions and closures before your trip.
