Family trip to FLA
Looking to take family trip to either Tampa area or Panhandle. April (after spring break) to celebrate Mom’s 65th. 3 small grandbabies. Need recommendations as to areas to search (ie Rosemary Beach, etc) Tio
Planning a family trip to Florida with small children and celebrating a special occasion like your mother’s 65th is a wonderful idea. Both the Tampa area and the Panhandle offer unique experiences, so your choice will depend on whether you prefer Gulf Coast beaches, family-friendly activities, or a mix of relaxation and entertainment.
If you’re considering the Tampa area, it’s ideal for families who want a combination of beaches, attractions, and easy access to amenities. The Gulf Coast beaches near Tampa are warm and family-friendly, with calm waters suitable for small children.
- Clearwater Beach: Famous for soft white sand, shallow water, and kid-friendly activities. There are playgrounds, casual restaurants, and easy access to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium if your grandbabies enjoy animals.
- St. Pete Beach / Treasure Island: Quieter than Clearwater, with calm waters, resorts that cater to families, and easy beach access. You can rent beach gear and enjoy casual dining nearby.
- Tampa Bay Attractions: If you want a mix of beach and entertainment, consider spending a day at Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, or Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
Alternatively, the Florida Panhandle offers more scenic coastal towns, often with walkable neighborhoods, colorful architecture, and sugar-white sand beaches. This area is great for families who enjoy a slower pace, beach walks, and charming local shops.
- Rosemary Beach: Highly walkable with pastel-colored cottages, bike rentals, and pedestrian-friendly streets. Family-friendly restaurants and calm beaches make it perfect for small children.
- Seaside: Known for its iconic architecture and family-friendly community, Seaside has shallow waters and wide beaches for kids to play safely. The town has local shops and eateries within walking distance.
- Destin / Miramar Beach: Offers plenty of beachfront rentals and family activities such as dolphin cruises, mini golf, and casual seafood restaurants. The waters are shallow and clear, ideal for little ones.
- 30A Area Beaches: Includes towns like Grayton Beach, WaterColor, and Alys Beach. These areas have beautiful beach access, nature trails, and rental communities suited for families.
Additional considerations for your trip:
- Choose a rental or resort that is child-friendly, ideally with kitchen facilities and easy beach access.
- April is generally pleasant weather-wise in both regions, but Panhandle beaches can be cooler than Tampa-area beaches.
- If you plan to celebrate your mom’s birthday with a special meal or activity, check local dining options in advance to ensure reservations, especially in popular towns like Rosemary Beach or Seaside.
- Consider travel logistics—Tampa is easier to reach by plane with more direct flights, while the Panhandle may require longer drives depending on your departure location.
Overall, for a mix of relaxation, beaches, and convenience, Tampa/Pinellas County is excellent. For charm, scenic beaches, and a more laid-back coastal experience, the Panhandle towns like Rosemary Beach, Seaside, or Destin are ideal. Either option will provide a memorable family trip celebrating your mom’s milestone with the grandbabies in tow.
