Any recommendations on surf lessons? Who to use and location. We are staying at Sheraton Maui a few nights (for the resort feel, pool & all the accommodations) then Bay Villas at Kapalua.
Aloha! Maui is a fantastic place to learn surfing, with several beaches suited for beginners and many reputable surf schools. Since you’ll be staying at both the Sheraton Maui (Kaanapali) and Kapalua Bay Villas, you have options on both the south and west sides of the island.
Surf Lessons Near Sheraton Maui (Kaanapali)
Kaanapali Beach is beginner-friendly with long, gentle waves, perfect for learning. There are several well-reviewed surf schools nearby:
- Maui Wave Riders – Located in Kaanapali, offers private and group lessons with certified instructors. Great for first-timers and families.

Surf Lessons Near Kapalua Bay Villas
Kapalua has some sheltered bays with smaller waves suitable for beginners, but for better beginner surf conditions, nearby Honolua Bay or Lahaina/Kaanapali areas are often preferred. Schools that can accommodate Kapalua guests include:
