Car hire after cruise
Hi can anyone recommend where to hire a car from after my cruise. Is there somewhere near Miami port or is it best to go back to the airpot
After disembarking from your cruise in Miami, there are several convenient options for hiring a car without needing to return to the airport. The Port of Miami itself is serviced by multiple rental car companies, and you can arrange pickups nearby or via shuttle.
Options for Car Hire:
- Rental Car Companies near PortMiami: Major companies like Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, and Sixt have locations just a few minutes from the port. Most offer shuttle services from the cruise terminal to their offices. This is often the most convenient option, especially if you don’t want to backtrack to the airport.
- Miami International Airport (MIA): If you prefer to pick up a car at the airport, you can take a taxi, rideshare, or shuttle from the port to MIA. This adds about 15–20 minutes of travel time without traffic. The airport offers a wider selection of cars, sometimes at better rates.
- Downtown / Brickell Locations: Some rental companies have offices in downtown Miami or Brickell, which is about a 10–15 minute drive from the port. This can be convenient if you plan to explore the city immediately after your cruise.
Tips:
- Book in advance to guarantee availability and avoid long waits after your cruise.
- Check whether the rental company offers shuttles from the port; this can save time and hassle.
- Consider your itinerary: if you plan to drive south (Keys) or west (Everglades) immediately, a port pickup is most convenient. If you’re flying out soon, airport pickup might make sense.
Overall, renting near the port is generally the easiest and fastest way to get a car after your cruise, avoiding the extra trip to the airport.
