When to board cruise

We are cruising on Disney Dream on Nov. 26 with an onboard time of 3:00 pm. How can I figure out what time do we arrive at the port and actually get on the ship?

For Disney Cruise Line sailings, the "onboard time" of 3:00 pm is the earliest time your stateroom may be ready and when passengers are typically allowed to begin boarding. The actual process of arriving and getting on the ship can take some additional time depending on a few factors.

Here’s how to plan your arrival and boarding:

  • Arrival at the port: Disney recommends arriving at Port Everglades at least 1–1.5 hours before your assigned boarding window. For a 3:00 pm onboard time, aim to get to the port around 1:30–2:00 pm. This allows time for parking, security, and the check-in process.
  • Check-in process: You will first go through security screening similar to airport procedures, then check in at the Disney terminal. If you have pre-checked online and completed your online check-in, this will speed up the process. You’ll need your ID, cruise documents, and any forms for kids.
  • Waiting and boarding: After check-in, passengers are typically directed to a waiting area until their boarding group is called. Disney boards in waves, so you may not be on the ship immediately at your 3:00 pm time, but generally, most families are onboard within 30–45 minutes of their start time.
  • Stateroom readiness: Even if you board early, your room may not be available right away. Disney usually allows early access to common areas, restaurants, and pools while rooms are being prepared. Most rooms are ready by late afternoon.

Additional tips:

  • If you want to be among the first onboard, consider arriving as early as possible after the terminal opens, usually around 12:30–1:00 pm.
  • Bring a small carry-on with swimsuits, sunscreen, and snacks if you plan to go directly to the pool before your room is ready.
  • Check the Disney Cruise Line app or your documentation for your specific boarding group; sometimes times are staggered slightly based on stateroom category.

In summary, for a 3:00 pm onboard time, plan to arrive at Port Everglades around 1:30–2:00 pm. You’ll likely board between 3:00 and 3:45 pm, with stateroom access shortly after boarding.
