Clothing

I am going to be at Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend on June 23rd. Any recommendations on what to wear that is good for taking the ladders and maybe getting wet or not sweating to death? I know it will be hot, but I am from Texas so I am ok with that I just don't want to be in the "wrong attire" for such a long tour. I know NOT jeans. But shorts? Work out pants? Long pants? Short sleeves? Tank top? All the things.

thanks

Visiting Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend in late June means you’ll likely experience high temperatures, direct sun exposure, and some physical activity like climbing ladders or walking over uneven terrain. Dressing properly is key to staying comfortable, safe, and photographed well without overheating.

Here are some general clothing guidelines:

  • Bottoms: Lightweight, breathable pants or athletic leggings are ideal. They protect your legs from sun and sand while allowing full mobility for climbing ladders and scrambling. Shorts are okay if you’re comfortable exposing your legs to sun and sand, but make sure they allow free movement.
  • Tops: Short-sleeve moisture-wicking shirts are best. Tank tops are fine if you’re comfortable, but remember your shoulders will be exposed to sun. Light, breathable long-sleeve shirts made of UV-protective fabric can also be a good choice to avoid sunburn.
  • Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are a must for Antelope Canyon. Hiking shoes, trail runners, or sturdy sneakers with good grip will help with sandy, rocky, and sometimes slippery surfaces. Avoid sandals or flip-flops.
  • Layering: Early mornings may be slightly cooler, so a light long-sleeve or breathable hoodie can be useful. You can remove it once temperatures rise.
  • Hat & Accessories: Wide-brim hat or cap for sun protection, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential. A small backpack or fanny pack for water and snacks is helpful.

Additional tips specific to the tours:

  • Clothing should be easy to wash or shake out — the canyon can be dusty and sandy.
  • Bright colors or patterns look great in photos against the red rock backdrop.
  • Bring a lightweight, quick-dry towel or bandana if you plan to get slightly wet near water areas or if you want to wipe sweat.
  • Hydration is critical — carry water in a small, easy-to-access bottle.

In summary, breathable, moisture-wicking, and flexible clothing is key. Athletic pants or leggings, short-sleeve or light long-sleeve tops, closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and a small backpack will make your Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend experience much more comfortable while keeping you safe and cool.
