Slide Rock State Park is a popular stop in Sedona, known for its natural water slides along Oak Creek. Midweek visits, especially outside of peak summer months, are generally much less crowded than weekends. Since you’re visiting next week, which is not during a major holiday, you can expect a moderate crowd. There may still be other visitors, but you should be able to enjoy the park comfortably for 1–2 hours.

The park is ideal for a quick visit, especially if you are passing through Sedona on your way to the Grand Canyon. You can enjoy a short walk along the creek, take a few photos, and if weather permits, let the kids experience the water slides. Keep in mind that the parking lot can fill up, but midweek it usually has availability.

Since you plan to have lunch in Sedona, Slide Rock can fit nicely into a half-day stop. Other kid-friendly activities nearby that are worth considering include:

  • Bell Rock & Courthouse Butte Trail: Easy hiking with dramatic red rock scenery. Short loops are manageable for kids and provide excellent photo opportunities.
  • Chapel of the Holy Cross: A quick visit for scenic views and interesting architecture. Very kid-friendly and requires minimal walking.
  • Pink Jeep Tours: A fun off-road adventure through Sedona’s red rock terrain. Exciting for kids and adults alike, and provides a unique perspective of the area.
  • Cathedral Rock Trail (short segment): Even a partial hike provides incredible views and photo opportunities. Suitable for older kids who enjoy some climbing.

Tips for your visit:

  • Arrive early in the day to avoid any potential crowds, especially if the weather is warm.
  • Bring water, sun protection, and shoes suitable for walking on wet and rocky surfaces.
  • If you plan to use the natural water slides, consider quick-drying clothes and towels, and be aware that the water can be chilly outside of peak summer months.

In summary, midweek Slide Rock visits are manageable, and you can comfortably stop for 1–2 hours. Combining it with a lunch in Sedona and perhaps one additional kid-friendly activity makes for a pleasant and active detour on your way to the Grand Canyon.
