Dining outside in July?

Excited to return to the valley... We're making dinner reservations for the second week of July and wondering, generally, will it be too hot to eat outside (early dinner @ 6pm)?

Thanks.

Visiting Napa Valley in July is a wonderful experience, especially if you enjoy warm weather and outdoor dining. July is typically one of the hottest months in the region, with daytime highs often ranging from the upper 80s to mid-90s °F (30–35°C). However, by early evening, around 6pm, temperatures usually start to cool down a bit, though it can still feel quite warm depending on the location and whether there’s direct sun or shade.

Dining outside at this time is generally pleasant, particularly if the restaurant offers shaded patios, umbrellas, or outdoor fans. Many Napa Valley restaurants and wineries are designed for outdoor dining and provide comfortable seating options even during the summer heat.

Some tips to ensure a comfortable outdoor dining experience in July:

  • Look for restaurants with shaded patios or covered terraces.
  • Consider vineyards with outdoor seating facing north or with pergolas to avoid direct afternoon sun.
  • Bring a light layer, as temperatures can drop slightly after sunset, especially in open vineyard areas.
  • Check if the restaurant offers misters or fans, which are common in Napa Valley outdoor settings during hot months.

Overall, early dinner around 6pm in Napa Valley in July is usually comfortable, and most restaurants are prepared for the summer heat. If you prefer cooler dining, try to choose locations with shade or slight breeze, or plan to arrive a bit later when the sun has set.

In summary, outdoor dining in Napa Valley in July is very popular and feasible. With the right seating choice, you should enjoy a pleasant and scenic evening meal without excessive heat discomfort.
