Sep trip
We will be in Napa for three nights coming down from Mendocino. We are looking for some wineries that offer Pinot Grigio. Does anyone know of any?
Napa Valley is primarily known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but there are several wineries that produce Pinot Grigio or similar lighter whites, which can be refreshing during a September visit. Since you'll be coming down from Mendocino and staying for three nights, you can plan a mix of well-known estates and boutique wineries that showcase Pinot Grigio or other crisp whites.
Here are some suggestions for wineries that offer Pinot Grigio:
- Round Pond Estate: Located in Rutherford, they focus on Italian varietals including Pinot Grigio and have a beautiful tasting room and garden area.
- St. Supery Estate Vineyards & Winery: While known for Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet, they occasionally produce small-batch Pinot Grigio or similar crisp whites. Tasting experiences are scenic and relaxing.
- Grgich Hills Estate: Famous for Chardonnay, but they also produce limited amounts of lighter whites; check their current offerings.
- Artesa Vineyards & Winery: While more known for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, their tasting room is very scenic and they often have Italian varietals like Pinot Grigio.
Additional tips for a three-night stay in Napa:
- Book tastings in advance, especially for September, which can be a busy harvest period.
- Consider mixing winery visits with casual stops at wine bars in Napa or Yountville to try smaller production Pinot Grigio options.
- Include scenic drives through Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros regions for both wine and landscape enjoyment.
In summary, while Napa is more famous for other varietals, there are several wineries offering Pinot Grigio or similar whites. Planning ahead and balancing larger estates with boutique wineries will maximize your tasting experience during your three-night stay.
