Hotel recs

I'm booked at the Luma for 3-nights to see the games at Oracle park, but was looking to stay somewhere else for 2-nights prior in a different area. Any recs would be greatly appreciated! We would like to be walkable and have nice dining nearby.

For a 2-night stay in San Francisco prior to your stay at the Luma near Oracle Park, it’s great to pick a neighborhood that is walkable with plenty of dining options and local attractions. Since you’re already covering the ballpark area later, consider exploring a different vibe in the city.

Here are some solid neighborhood options and hotel recommendations:

  • Union Square / Financial District: Central, walkable, and surrounded by shopping, restaurants, and theaters. Easy public transit access to other parts of the city.
  • North Beach / Telegraph Hill: Known for its Italian heritage, cozy cafes, and restaurants. Walkable streets, plus close to Chinatown and the Embarcadero. Great for evening strolls and dining.
  • Fisherman’s Wharf / Marina: A touristy area with plenty of dining and attractions like Pier 39 and the Maritime Museum. Walkable, with views of the bay and easy access to cable cars.

Some hotel options in these neighborhoods that balance convenience, walkability, and nearby dining:

  • Union Square: Hotel Nikko, Kimpton Sir Francis Drake, or Parc 55. Central, modern, and good access to restaurants.
  • North Beach: Hotel Bohème (quirky and artistic), or the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf (slightly closer to the water but still in North Beach vibe).
  • Fisherman’s Wharf / Marina: Argonaut Hotel (historic, bay views), Hotel Zephyr, or the Inn at the Wharf. Family-friendly with fun public spaces and restaurants nearby.

Tips:

  • Book early, especially for August or September, as SF hotels fill quickly.
  • Consider using public transportation or rideshares to get from your first hotel to Luma later; SF traffic and parking can be tricky.
  • Look for hotels that have on-site dining or partnerships with local restaurants to maximize your walkable dining options.

Any of these neighborhoods will give you a different perspective of the city than the ballpark area, while keeping you in a lively, walkable area with good food.
