Seward stay recommendation : spruce lodge or Seward lodge

Hi, I will be in Seward for 2 nights end of this month. I am checking at the hotels and I see spruce lodge and windsong lodge both having good reviews. I’ve a car. Would like to find out if anyone stayed at these properties and if one is better over the other.

I am doing the 6 hour Kenai Fjords cruise tour (8am tour) on one day. Mostly use lodge for sleeping

If your main priority is a place to sleep while doing activities like the 6-hour Kenai Fjords cruise, both Spruce Lodge and Windsong Lodge are good options in Seward. Both have solid reviews and are conveniently located for accessing downtown and the cruise departure point.

Here are some factors to consider when deciding between the two:

  • Spruce Lodge: Known for clean, simple rooms and a convenient location close to downtown Seward. It’s slightly more central, so you have easy access to restaurants and shops. Some travelers mention that the lodge feels more like a traditional motel or lodge, with a cozy but straightforward atmosphere.
  • Windsong Lodge: Offers a quieter setting, slightly outside the immediate downtown area but still within a short drive. Many guests appreciate the peaceful environment, and some rooms have small kitchenettes, which can be convenient if you want to prepare breakfast or snacks. The lodge tends to feel a bit more like a retreat compared to Spruce Lodge.

Since you have a car, the slight difference in location is not a major issue. Both lodges are within a 5–10 minute drive to the cruise departure area. If you value proximity to downtown dining and shops, Spruce Lodge may be preferable. If you prefer a quieter, slightly more residential or nature-oriented setting, Windsong Lodge could be the better choice.

Other practical considerations:

  • Parking is available at both lodges, which is convenient for your car.
  • Both lodges provide Wi-Fi and basic amenities suitable for a short stay.
  • Neither lodge is particularly luxurious, but both are comfortable for resting before and after excursions.

In summary, for a 2-night stay mainly focused on the Kenai Fjords cruise and using the lodge primarily for sleeping, either option works well. The choice comes down to whether you prefer central convenience (Spruce Lodge) or a quieter, slightly more secluded atmosphere (Windsong Lodge).
