Holland America cruise - train station to the pier ?

It seems that San Diego Santa Fe train station is only two blocks to the Holland America pier. Anyone know if there is a shuttle bus on cruise day or is it easy to find a taxi/uber ? A bit too far for seniors with luggage to walk. Thank you !

The Holland America cruise terminal in San Diego is indeed very close to the Santa Fe Depot train station, approximately two blocks away. While the walk is short, it can be challenging for seniors or travelers with heavy luggage, so exploring transportation options is a good idea.

Here are the main ways to get from the train station to the cruise pier:

  • Shuttle Services: Holland America typically offers shuttle services on embarkation day. It’s recommended to check directly with the cruise line prior to your trip to see if a shuttle from the train station is available or if there are any partnered services.
  • Taxi: Taxis are readily available outside the Santa Fe Depot. The short drive is quick, and it’s convenient for seniors or those with heavy luggage.
  • Rideshare (Uber/Lyft): Uber and Lyft operate extensively in downtown San Diego. Requesting a ride is easy from the train station and will drop you right at the terminal entrance.
  • Private Car Service: For added comfort, especially with seniors, you could pre-book a private car or town car service to meet you at the station and transport you directly to the pier.

Additional tips:

  • If you prefer walking, consider bringing rolling luggage or a small trolley bag to make the short distance manageable.
  • Allow a bit of extra time on embarkation day, as the pier can get busy and you’ll want to have enough time to check in without rushing.
  • If traveling with multiple seniors or lots of luggage, a rideshare or taxi may be the easiest and least stressful option.

Overall, the proximity of the Santa Fe Depot to the Holland America terminal makes it one of the most convenient embarkation points in San Diego, and arranging a quick taxi or rideshare is straightforward and efficient.
