Which hotel?

It’s just for 1 night, we will have a car, wanting to see the zoo, go visit Coronado beach & village in the daytime and eat some where either in little Italy or navel area? - am looking at Best western yacht harbour or kings inn both are roughly same cost, what would you choose ? & why? Also any suggestions for evening food out would be greatly appreciated

For a one-night stay in San Diego with plans to visit the Zoo, Coronado, and have dinner in Little Italy or the Embarcadero, both Best Western Yacht Harbor and Kings Inn are convenient options, but each has slightly different advantages depending on your priorities.

Comparison of the two hotels:

  • Best Western Yacht Harbor: Located near Shelter Island and close to the harbor, this hotel offers a more scenic location with views of the marina. It’s slightly closer to the airport and the Embarcadero area for evening dining. Parking is generally easy, and it’s a short drive to the Zoo (around 15–20 minutes depending on traffic). Ideal if you prefer a quieter, waterfront setting.
  • Kings Inn: Located in Mission Valley, closer to major freeways. This location is convenient for driving to the Zoo (around 10 minutes), Balboa Park, and Coronado. The hotel has a retro vibe, an outdoor pool, and is well-positioned if your priority is quick driving access rather than scenic views. It’s about a 15–20 minute drive to Little Italy for dinner.

Recommendation:

For your described itinerary—Zoo, Coronado, and dinner downtown—I would lean slightly toward Best Western Yacht Harbor. The hotel’s location near the harbor provides a pleasant atmosphere, easier access to evening dining at the Embarcadero or Little Italy, and still reasonable driving times to the Zoo and Coronado.

Evening dining suggestions:

  • Little Italy: - Born and Raised for upscale steaks and seafood, Ironside Fish & Oyster for fresh seafood in a trendy atmosphere, Bencotto for authentic Italian pasta.
  • Embarcadero/Navy Pier: - Edgewater Grill for waterfront seafood, Herringbone for a casual seafood-focused menu, or Coaster Saloon for a relaxed vibe with views of the water.
  • Coronado (if you prefer close-by dining): - Peohe’s for sushi and seafood with bay views, Brigantine Seafood for casual seafood fare.

Tips:

  • Since you have a car, driving between these areas is straightforward; allow extra time for weekend traffic, especially around Coronado Bridge and downtown.
  • If you want to maximize your time at the Zoo and Coronado during the day, leaving early is recommended.
  • Reservations are recommended for popular evening spots, especially in Little Italy.

In conclusion, both hotels work, but Best Western Yacht Harbor offers a slightly better balance of convenience, atmosphere, and proximity to evening dining options along the water.
