Transport from Reagan Natl to convention center
Which is easiest/reasonable to get from airport to hotel? Lyft? Taxi? What should we budget? Sadly we arrive at 5pm on a Thursday. Thanks!
Arriving at Reagan National Airport (DCA) around 5 PM on a Thursday means you'll likely hit evening rush hour traffic, so planning for extra time is wise.
Options for getting to the Washington DC Convention Center:
- Taxi: Taxis are readily available at DCA and provide a direct ride to the convention center. The ride usually takes 15–25 minutes without traffic but can take 30–45 minutes during rush hour. Budget approximately $25–$40 including tip.
- Ride-hailing services (Lyft/Uber): These are convenient, with pickup locations outside each terminal. Pricing can vary depending on demand, but you might expect $20–$35 for a standard ride. Surge pricing is likely during peak traffic.
- Metro: Reagan National has a direct connection to the Yellow and Blue Lines. You can take the Yellow Line to L’Enfant Plaza and then either walk or transfer to a short walk to the convention center. The total trip is around 25–35 minutes, but you will need to carry luggage and navigate transfers. Fare is about $2–$3 per person using a SmarTrip card or contactless payment.
- Airport shuttle or hotel shuttle: Some hotels in the area offer shuttles, though availability and schedules vary. It’s worth checking with your hotel ahead of time.
Recommendation:
Given your arrival time during rush hour and potential luggage, a taxi or Lyft is likely the most convenient and stress-free choice. Metro is economical and reliable but requires walking and possible transfers.
