Luggage Storage
We are planning to arrive in Shapingba Railway station and then do sightseeing. Later it is required to catch a train from the Chongqing East station.
- Which Metro stations has the luggage storage facilities ? (ideally Line-1 or Line6 in the Central area)
- Any other suggestions please?
In Chongqing, luggage storage is not universally available at every metro station, but several key stations, especially near major transport hubs and tourist areas, do offer services where you can store your bags for a few hours or the day. Since you are arriving at Shapingba Railway Station and later need to catch a train from Chongqing East Station, itβs important to plan convenient storage locations along your sightseeing route.
Luggage storage at metro stations:
- Shapingba Station (Line 1 / Line 9 interchange) β The station is directly connected to Shapingba Railway Station. There are luggage storage counters inside the railway station concourse, which is the most convenient place to drop off your bags upon arrival.
- Jiefangbei Station (Line 1 / Line 6 interchange) β Located in the central shopping and tourist area. While the metro station itself may not have official lockers, there are several nearby hotels, shopping malls, and 24-hour convenience stores that offer short-term luggage storage for a small fee.
- Chaotianmen or Xiaoshizi Station (Line 1 / Line 6) β These central metro stations are close to tourist attractions along the riverside and Hongya Cave. Many nearby hotels and attractions provide luggage holding services even for non-guests.
Other luggage storage suggestions:
- Railway stations: Both Shapingba Railway Station and Chongqing East Station have dedicated luggage storage areas. This is the most reliable option if you want security and official service. Check the hours of operation as some counters may close late at night.
- Hotels in the city center: Many hotels near Jiefangbei or Hongya Cave will store luggage for a fee even if you are not staying overnight. This is convenient if you plan to sightsee in central Chongqing without dragging your bags.
- Shopping malls: Large malls like IFS Mall and Chongqing Times Square often provide luggage storage or locker facilities near customer service counters.
- Third-party luggage services: Services such as LuggageHero, Nannybag, or local app-based providers sometimes operate in Chongqing and allow you to book temporary storage at cafes or small shops around the city. This can be convenient for sightseeing without returning to a station.
Practical tips:
- Always check the maximum storage duration and hours of operation before leaving your luggage.
- Keep valuables, passports, and electronics with you rather than storing them.
- If using hotels or malls, ask for a receipt or confirmation to avoid confusion when collecting your bags.
In summary, the most straightforward solution is to leave your luggage at Shapingba Railway Station upon arrival, enjoy sightseeing in central Chongqing using Line 1 or Line 6, and then either retrieve your bags there or store them temporarily near Jiefangbei before heading to Chongqing East Station. This approach minimizes backtracking and ensures your luggage is safe while you explore the city.
