South Tahoe Hilton Vacation Club parking

Hi there

We’ve just spotted that the Hilton charges $27 per night mandatory parking. I was wondering if anyone with local knowledge knew of a cheaper / free alternative?

Thanks.

The Hilton Vacation Club in South Lake Tahoe does charge $27 per night for mandatory parking, which can add up quickly. Unfortunately, because it is a resort property in a busy area, there are limited free parking options very close by. That said, there are some alternatives and strategies you can consider to reduce or avoid the fee.

Here are a few possibilities:

  • Public street parking: There are some metered or free street parking spots nearby, but these can be very limited, especially during peak ski or summer seasons. Make sure to check signage carefully, as time limits or permit requirements are enforced.
  • Nearby public lots: A few municipal or public lots in South Lake Tahoe may offer lower-cost parking than the resort. Some are within walking distance of the Hilton, though availability can be limited in peak periods.
  • Other hotels or casinos: Some nearby hotels or casinos may allow overnight parking for a smaller fee, but you would need to check with management and ensure they allow non-guests overnight.

Other tips to consider:

  • If you’re mainly using the car for arrival/departure or short trips, you could park offsite for free or cheaper and walk, ride-share, or use a taxi for other activities.
  • Ask the Hilton if they offer any package deals or discounted parking for longer stays; sometimes resort members or Hilton Honors members get reduced rates.
  • During off-peak seasons, some lots or streets may have more availability, so planning your visit strategically can help.

In summary, while there is no guaranteed free parking immediately at the Hilton Vacation Club, checking nearby public lots, street parking, and possible offsite arrangements can save money. Always verify local parking rules to avoid fines.
