seeking non-meat restaurants (pescatarian/vegetarian)
We will be visiting St Augustine in a few weeks, and would love to find some pescatarian/vegetarian friendly restaurants in the historic district, or on the water. I have searched some places, and watched some Youtube videos, but even the fish restaurants seem to be loaded with meat (eg. Catch27 has meat on many of their fish dishes. WHY?!) Nothing at all against people who enjoy meat, but it just isn't what we enjoy. Mainly looking for lunch places and dinner places.
St. Augustine has a great selection of pescatarian and vegetarian-friendly restaurants, even though many of the fish-focused places do feature meat-heavy dishes. Here are some options where you can enjoy flavorful, meat-free meals, whether you're looking for lunch or dinner, and with some nice ambiance, either in the historic district or near the water:
- The Floridian – Located in the historic district, this restaurant offers a variety of creative, locally-sourced dishes with great options for vegetarians and pescatarians. Their menu includes vegetable-based dishes, fresh seafood, and some vegan options. They focus on southern comfort food with a healthier twist, so you’ll find plenty of plant-based meals here.
- Salt Life Food Shack – While known for seafood, Salt Life offers a great selection of vegetarian and pescatarian-friendly dishes. Their menu includes salads, sushi rolls, and lighter seafood options. The atmosphere is casual, and it's located near the water, making it a lovely spot for lunch or dinner with a view.
- Collage Restaurant – This upscale restaurant in the heart of the historic district is known for its artfully crafted dishes, many of which are pescatarian and vegetarian-friendly. The menu changes seasonally, but you’ll often find delicious fish dishes as well as options like roasted vegetables, pastas, and creative salads. Perfect for a more refined dining experience.
- Aviles Restaurant – Situated on Aviles Street, this cozy eatery focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients with many options for vegetarians. Their menu has a selection of light, healthy dishes, including salads, soups, and fish-based meals, all made with local produce and seafood.
- Gypsy Cab Company – While not fully vegetarian, Gypsy Cab Company is known for having great seafood and vegetarian-friendly options. They offer dishes like blackened fish tacos, veggie stir-fries, and creative salads. The atmosphere is casual and perfect for a relaxed meal after a day of sightseeing.
- Prohibition Kitchen – This trendy spot in St. Augustine offers a range of options, including some delicious plant-based choices. Their menu includes a variety of vegetable-forward dishes, including a veggie burger and some great sides. While they also serve meat, there are plenty of pescatarian and vegetarian options to choose from.
If you're looking for a more casual, café-style experience, you might also want to check out Cousteau's Waffle & Milkshake Bar, which offers several vegetarian-friendly waffles and shakes, or The Green Turtle Tavern, which has a small but solid vegetarian menu, with a focus on fresh, plant-based meals. Both offer relaxed settings and delicious options.
While St. Augustine is a historical haven for tourists, it does have a variety of vegetarian and pescatarian-friendly spots for you to enjoy. Hopefully, these suggestions will help you enjoy your visit and have some great meals that fit your dietary preferences!
