Restaurant suggestions

Hello. My wife and I are staying at Marriott Marquis. Looking for your favorite breakfast/dinner options that are walkable. Cuisine for dinner doesn't matter but nothing fancy please. Looking at all the reviews on here they all start to look the same. Just looking for some local favorites! Thank you.

Staying at the Marriott Marquis in downtown San Diego gives you great walkable access to the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, and nearby neighborhoods with lots of casual dining options. For breakfast and dinner, you can enjoy a mix of local favorites without venturing far.

Breakfast / Brunch:

  • Breakfast Republic: A popular local chain known for inventive breakfast dishes and hearty portions. Try their "Breakfast Tacos" or "Stuffed French Toast."
  • Cafe 222: Located in the Gaslamp, famous for peanut butter and banana stuffed French toast and classic breakfast plates. Casual, cozy, and very walkable.
  • Richard Walker's Pancake House: Just a short walk away, offering classic pancakes, omelets, and fresh fruit. Great for a more traditional breakfast experience.

Dinner / Casual Eats:

  • Hodad's Downtown: Legendary burger joint with massive, flavorful burgers in a fun, laid-back setting. Walkable from the hotel.
  • Cafe Sevilla: Casual Spanish tapas and sangria. Great if you want to sample small plates with a local vibe.
  • El Indio: Quick casual Mexican, loved for fresh tacos, burritos, and chips & salsa. Very walkable and iconic to San Diego.
  • The Fish Market: Located on the waterfront, serving casual seafood with fresh catches and a market-style feel. Perfect for a relaxed dinner without fancy formality.
  • Ballast Point Little Italy: If you want to wander a bit further (15–20 min walk), the brewery offers casual bites and a good craft beer selection.

Tips:

  • Walking around the Gaslamp Quarter in the evening is safe and lively, so you can explore a few options before settling on dinner.
  • For breakfast, try to go early or be prepared for a short wait, as these spots can get busy on weekends.
  • Seaport Village nearby also has casual seafood and snack options if you prefer a waterfront stroll with lighter fare.

Overall, staying near the Marriott Marquis gives you flexibility to walk to a mix of classic San Diego breakfast spots and casual dinner venues without needing a car or reservations for most casual options.
