Hotels in near green line to SDSU

My daughter will be attending New Student Orientation @ SDSU in July. We fly in from out of state and I would like to avoid renting a car and stay near the green line so we can take it directly to SDSU. It looks like Mission Valley or Old Town are good options. Can anyone recommend a hotel in those areas?

For staying near the Green Line in San Diego to get to SDSU, both Mission Valley and Old Town are convenient areas with good transit access. The Green Line runs directly to the SDSU transit station, so staying within walking distance of any Green Line stop is ideal.

Mission Valley is central, close to shopping and dining, and has multiple Green Line stops along the freeway corridor. Old Town is a bit farther west but still convenient for the Green Line, with a more historic, walkable area and easy access to the airport if flying in.

Here are some hotel options in both areas:

  • Mission Valley:
    • Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina – upscale, near trolley stops and offers shuttle services.
    • Best Western Plus Mission Valley – budget-friendly, comfortable, walking distance to trolley station.
    • Hilton San Diego Mission Valley – convenient for Green Line access, pool and family-friendly amenities.
  • Old Town:
    • Old Town Inn – small boutique hotel, very close to Old Town Transit Center for Green Line access.
    • Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town – comfortable rooms, near transit and historic district.
    • Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Old Town – modern amenities, walking distance to trolley stop.

Additional tips:

  • Check the distance to the nearest Green Line trolley stop when booking, as walking time can vary.
  • Purchase a day pass or multi-day pass for the trolley to make trips to SDSU and around San Diego easy and cost-effective.
  • If arriving late at night, Old Town may be more convenient as it is closer to the airport compared with Mission Valley.

Overall, either area works well for accessing SDSU via the Green Line. Mission Valley is more central and modern, while Old Town offers a historic charm and easy airport access. Plan based on your priorities of convenience, style, and nearby amenities.
