Kahala beach day trip help please

ALoha.. my husband and I are in Waikiki for a week and want to take a cab out to the Kahala area for a day... I love the Kahala hotel and would like to have an early dinner there at the Seaside Grill afer swimming at the beach.. QUESTiON: I am confused where to be dropped off to swim at the beach near the hotel. Is the Kahala Beach NEXT to the hotel ? we would like showers and restrooms to change after swimming. Would we be able to walk from the Kahala Beach area over to the beach right in front of the hotel? How close are they? Lastly, is this a good swimming beach with soft sand and not rocky on the bottom as you enter? I know it is nice in front of the hotel . If the beaches are close, are they close enough to just walk over to the hotel beach and then back to use restrooms and showers... APPRECIATE any help with best plan. Mahalo

Aloha! It sounds like you have a wonderful day planned at the Kahala area! Let me help clarify the beach and hotel situation for you:

### Kahala Beach and the Hotel

The Kahala Beach is indeed located next to The Kahala Hotel & Resort, but there is a small residential area that separates the two. While the beach is accessible from the hotel, it’s not directly in front of the hotel entrance. You will need to walk a little distance from the hotel grounds to reach the public access area for Kahala Beach. This area is open to the public, so no worries about being able to swim there.

### Access to the Beach

  • The walk from the Kahala Hotel to the beach is relatively short, around 5–10 minutes, depending on where you’re starting from within the hotel grounds.
  • You will need to walk past the hotel’s parking lot, and there is a public pathway that leads to the beach. The Kahala Beach area is fairly quiet and not very crowded, so it’s a peaceful spot to relax.

### Facilities for Changing and Showering

  • The Kahala Hotel has excellent facilities, including showers and restrooms by their pool and spa areas, but you’ll need to either walk back to the hotel or arrange to use these facilities after swimming. There aren’t restrooms directly on the public Kahala Beach itself, so you’d have to walk back to the hotel for changing and showering.
  • It might be best to plan your day so you can swim at the public beach and then use the hotel facilities afterward when you’re ready to change for your early dinner at Seaside Grill.

### Is it a Good Swimming Beach?

Kahala Beach is generally a calm and beautiful spot for swimming. The water is typically clear and has a gentle surf, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing swim. The sand is soft, and the entry to the water is not rocky, so it’s very suitable for swimming. However, the beach is not as bustling as Waikiki Beach, so it’s more tranquil, which is perfect for a peaceful day in the sun.

### Walking Between the Two Beaches

  • Yes, it’s definitely possible to walk between the public Kahala Beach and the beach in front of the hotel. Since they’re relatively close, you can easily take a stroll from one to the other to enjoy both beaches.
  • However, just keep in mind that you’ll need to return to the hotel if you want to access the restrooms or showers, as the public beach doesn’t have these amenities.

### Best Plan

Your plan to swim at Kahala Beach and then head over to the Seaside Grill for dinner is great! Here's a suggested plan:

  • Take a cab to the Kahala area in the morning, swim at the public beach for a few hours, and then return to the hotel when you're ready to change and freshen up.
  • Use the hotel’s facilities to shower and change, then enjoy your early dinner at the Seaside Grill, which has a beautiful ocean view.

Overall, it sounds like you’re in for a relaxing and enjoyable day at the beach, followed by a delicious meal. Enjoy your time on Oahu, and Mahalo for your questions!
